(regular alloy is about 35% iron) Type 52 Alloy is designed for aerospace industry and advanced electronics applications, with a low coefficient of expansion to ensure tuning stability in all environments and is also corrosion resistant. In addition, the Type 52 Alloy has a strong magnetic attraction to the sound surface, so the low to middle stands out.

Excellent alloy 52 strings. Same tension and stiffness as other rotosounds. Similar smooth feeling to nickel swing 66. More mid focused tone than other rotosounds rounds, bit politer. Don't quite have the midrange growl usually associated with rotosounds rounds. Really great strings. Personally I prefer the nickel swing bass, but that's just personal preference. Only think I didn't like about the ultra, no silks. Poor show rotosound (or good effort depending on your opinion on silks).

Sound great, complimented on how good the bass sounded with them (3 band stingray), one big problem - the extra tension in the neck. I had to really give the truss rod a hammering to get the action back to my preferred height and they are rigid to finger. In the end I went back to my preferred DR Fat Beams, not because they sound better just because I didn’t like the neck tension. It felt better to play when I put DRs back on - much smoother. In short on one hand highly recommended for their sound but watch the tension.

These strings seem to be a higher tension than what I'm used to as the neck of the bass really bowed after putting these on. After that was out the way, I have to conclude that the marketing fluff doesn't translate well to my playing. Because of the higher tension I get an annoying clack when I start to dig in, and there is a really irritating noise when I move my fretting hand up and down the neck. I get this noise on all strings, but it's really pronounced here. For the positives, the B string is really clear and even compared with the other strings, and if the manufacturer is to be believed I would welcome the longer lasting nature of these strings, but they don't seem particularly bright when new. These strings didn't last long on my bass. As strings are so personal I cannot say that they're terrible, but they're certainly not for me, and the high tension probably should be clearer stated on the packet.--Update after 4 months: The bass went in for a service and has had the pick and neck adjusted. The strings now sound much much better. The annoying finger noise is attenuated and I now "get" what the strings are all about. I think it's as good as any other strings I've tried, and I look forward to seeing how long they last. One thing I absolutely love about these strings is that the same note on different strings sounds similar in tone. I've not experienced strings that do this as well as these strings do. This means that you can switch position in the middle of a phrase and there's no jarring tone shift. In short, I've bumped from 3 stars to 5 stars, assuming the promise of longer lasting holds.
