I actually ordered this to keep baking soda in and not salt. A pinch of baking soda in my coffee makes it alkaline as the acid hurt my stomach. This is perfect size to sit next to coffee pot. The lid slides easily for opening but keeps moisture out. For the money, it is very well made. I recommend it.

This is super cute. the lid is a bit hard to twist but maybe it will loosen as it's used. Love the bamboo!

I have another darker-tone cellar with thinner walls. I tried to find another one at a reasonable price but was not successful. This one will do the job but I don't like the oak look and the walls are a little too thick.

This is the right size for a small counter. The only problem I have is opening and closing it. The lid is a very tight fit, but with usage I think it will loosen up.

I got these for storing salt and spices or as gifts. They appear to be well made and have great value.

I have bought salt cellars like this before, and was afraid that I was making another mistake. Not so.The magnet in the lid is small, but the lid is crafted to be just tight enough with the magnet to keep it sealed, but not so tight that you have trouble opening it with one hand. The lid seals well enough that random splashes from my kids "helping" me to mix food in the kitchen hasn't gotten the contents wet. However, it is not air tight, so I would recommend staying away from herbs and spices, and stick with things like salts or other things without volatile oils that can dissipate in the air.The material doesn't seem to stain even when those same splashed liquids are things like liquid smoke, Worcestershire, or Tabasco. I don't think the wood is treated in any way though.
