I have always hated other tank additives I tried that just added a new "scent" to cover up the existing stink. I just wanted to smell nothing... and this seems to do just that. Gone is the artificial scent, and there is no more black tank odor in the bathroom or RV. Just drop in a tablet (50 in a package) and done. This one I will order again.

Simple to use. I've had sensors that would not come clean for about 9 months. The first treatment cleaned all the sensors in my black water tank. Give it a try, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Hard thing to review. Supposedly a block containing probiotics (bacteria) that will help dissolve what goes into your black (poo) tank.Having been a fulltime traveler in a large motorhome for so far almost a decade I have tried pretty much everything on the market. From products that merely perfume "things" to products that claim to have bacteria eating away on the stuff.Whether and how this works is a longer-term decision, based on whether any problem you might have with your black tank gets worse of better. I don't really have a problem with any current smells, so it is hard to say if this product resolves what is not there currently. My hope is that the bacteria supposed to be in the product help liquify what is in the tank, and hopefully also eat away on any current build-up as well, preventing blockages in the pipes.Essentially, you are literally dropping a dollar+ per tablet directly into the toilet, so it has better do something worthwhile. So far so good. Nothing has exploded yet, so I'll give the product the benefit of the doubt.Someday I'd like to see research on how many days bacteria would take to "eat" the stuff in an RV holding tank (which is NOT the same as a septic tank). Because, if the holding period in the tank is much shorter than the time it would take for the bacteria to do their "damage" on the "black stuff" then they are essentially flushed down the drain before they are done working. Meaning that the local city waste-system gets more benefit from those bacteria colonies than I do. :-)

OK, because I have the mind of a thirteen year old, I need to comment on the initials of this product: Waste Tank Formula. This can't be an accident, can it? I mean, they even highlight the initials on the label. So this is a product that everybody wishes they didn't ever have to think about or use. I've been doing this a long time though, and I have a lot of thoughts on tank treatments. For starters, you shouldn't EVER have to use them. I shouldn't say never ever though, because there are times when the funk gets out of hand and you need to toss one or two of these into the tank just to mask the smell. This should be rare though and shouldn't be your go-to routine. Most people mistakenly think that tank treatments are going to prevent smells and break down solids to make it easier to dump. This isn't true. Your tank is specifically called a "holding tank" and not a "septic tank". There's no amount of organic enzymes that you can flush down your RV toilet to break down your poo, at least not in any reasonable amount of time. Before going into too many details though and risking losing your attention, there are definitely rankings in tank treatments and these drop-ins are by no means the worst. The worst tank treatments are the blue or green liquids from previous generations. Those things are still around and they just make the stink worse. So don't take what I'm saying here to mean that this Waste Tank Formula is the worst, because it isn't.OK, back to the tank lesson. There are two reasons for a tank additive: The first is the obvious "funk management". But sadly most of these don't really work for that. More importantly though is trying to keep your sensors clean and accurate. And this type of additive really doesn't work for that. And before I go on, a lot of people will tell you to just flush a few bags of ice down the toilet and then drive around to agitate it. I've heard that wives' tale for decades and I've never seen any evidence that it actually works. Here's what your black tank routine should be:1. Flush your tanks.2. Add a few gallons of fresh water back to the tank. This can either be from your black tank flush, meaning that after you flush your tank out you close the dump valve and keep the flush hose running for a few more moments to add some more water. Or you can just go back inside your RV and step on the flush pedal to add some water. This isn't as pleasant since it leaves your toilet valve open for a long time and the smells can vent out. Either way is OK though.3. Next go into the bathroom if you aren't already there and add some liquid Calgon. It's hard to find at the grocery store, but luckily you're an Amazon customer and you can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/Calgon-Liquid-Water-Softener-Ounce/dp/B01MTIH92T. Two caps full is good.4. Lastly, pour the same amount of blue Dawn dish soap down the hatch. You can measure it out in the cap of the Calgon bottle, but it's thick and sticky and kind of makes a mess. After you do this a few times you'll get a feel for how much this is and you can just squeeze it right into the toilet bowl. Why Calgon and Dawn? Well, Dawn is obviously a detergent and it does a pretty good job of washing out your tank as you drive around. This only works if you added a few gallons of water first. And not so obviously, the Calgon lubricates the side of the tanks and acts to prevent TP and "solids" from sticking to your tank sensors. This is pretty critical over the long run, and these drop-in chemicals don't do anything to help maintain the tank sensors. So why use these drop-ins at all? Well, you could probably make it four or five years without ever using them, which is why I said you shouldn't EVER use them. But once in a while... Well, I'm no doctor, but once in a while our gut takes a delicious meal and turns it into a HAZMAT situation and you seriously consider burning down your RV for the insurance money and heading for a motel. I honestly can't say that these drop-ins really do anything to resolve the horrific smells, but at least you can tell your wife that you did something about it. In my experience though, using the toilet again and adding much more water to the tank seems to lessen the effect of whatever you ate. (Or if you have full hookups, just bite the bullet and dump the tank early go exorcize the demons.)I know I'm sending mixed messages here, but my message is:* Tank additives like these really don't work very well for funk-management, but these drop-in pouches are infinitely better than the liquids.* Tank management is more about keeping the tank clean-ish and maintaining your tank level sensors than eliminating the stinks. But the better you are about running detergents through the tanks (Dawn + Calgon), the cleaner your tank should be. But face it, it's a holding tank full of your excrement, so it's never going to smell like roses.* RV holding tanks are just that: holding tanks. They aren't septic tanks and things don't really break down like the do in a septic field. They just sit there until you get to the dumping station. This isn't to say that the big chunks don't turn into smaller chunks if you wait a few weeks after your trip to dump, but I really can't advocate this strategy.* These drop-ins are pretty much a placebo, but I give this product four stars because it's as good as the major brands like Camco and it's infinitely better than the liquids. They're expensive placebos though, so use your good judgement. Finally, don't dwell on this stuff. Just have fun with camping and don't fixate on the waste tanks.

I don't doubt that these are effective at dissolving waste, but when you try to shake one of these chalky tablets into your toilet, it's easy to get fine dust going everywhere. That can't be healthy.

We do mostly dry camping, and we flush the black and grey tanks once a week when we are out, and we have tried other tank treatments in our RV that suppose to make a better smell, but they never worked. These products break down waste and eliminate odor. It made flushing and cleaning the tank easier. It’s odorless, but we don’t care if it breaks the sewer smell and helps flush the black tank very quickly.
