The Story of The Scuba Diver Down Flag
- A dive flag indicates that scuba divers are nearby. In some areas, flying a dive flag while scuba diving is required by law, but in general, it’s a good idea for safety reasons.

Red and White Color Dive Flag(US Version)
The diver-down flag is red with a white diagonal stripe. it's used in the United States, Canada, and some Caribbean countries. it's also used to signal that there are divers in the water, and all vessels should keep clear and use a slow speed.
Blue and White Color Dive Flag( International Version )
The alpha flag, which is also known as the International Maritime Signal Flag, is a blue-and-white pennant tail and more commonly used in Europe. it's used to signal that there are divers in the water, and all vessels should keep clear and use a slow speed.
How to use a Dive Flag?
- The distance boaters should stay from a diver-down flag may vary from place to place. Always consult local laws before snorkeling or diving. PADI has a rule of thumb for you to stay within 15 meters/50 feet of your dive flag and for boats to remain at least 30 to 60 meters/100 to 200 feet away from you.
- When using a divers flag or snorkeling buoy, make sure the flag is visible at all times on the surface. Depending on the type of buoy you choose. Many dive floats come with a clippable tow line, but it is also recommended to purchase a durable, tangle-proof line and reel along with your dive buoy.
- Stay safe while you are diving with Dive Flag. Recognized around the world as a diving safety symbol, the Alpha Flag /Dive Down Flag sends a clear message to other boaters that a diver is below and to proceed with caution.
Dive boats fly a flag to let other vessels know that divers are below. You can fly a flag from a dive float you take with you into the water.

Note:
If on a float, your flag needs to be high enough on staff or pole so vessels can see it above waves or chop. A dive flag flying on a boat should be on a pole in a prominent place.

In 50 years of diving, and 60+ years boating/ sailing, these might be the flimsiest flags/ burgees I have ever owned. Very lightweight construction, lacking edge reinforcements or bunting, small unreinforced grommets, etc. If used in an actual outdoor windy marine environment I suspect they would only last a few days before they shred. But would be great for interior theme decorations in a rec room, bar, restaurant, table settings, etc.

After using once, a corner of the flag had become frayed - the winds were at 15 MPH gusts. I fixed the fray myself with thread and a butane lighter.

The flags color seem correct, and the nylon is nice and sturdy.The two pack is perfect because I think some places may require the white and blue flag for a boat. I think it might also be required if you're a boat actively tending divers, for example a drift dive. - I am not an expert on Maritime regulations, I just know my instructor uses both and I don't want to get a ticket.

The grommets rust and runs all over flags ... quality is sub par for a marine product which should salt water and metal oxidation

Not durable or weather safe at all. It is supposed to be designed to withstand wind and yet it didn’t even last for two hours. We are very disappointed. Don’t waste your time or money on this product.
