I took a chance and bought this instead of side reins and surcingle. I had been borrowing side reins from a friend and attaching to the saddle of our new OTTB. Getting my own set-up had two down sides 1) cost and 2) time/sweat. These are cheap, so easy to put on and you don't need to put on sweaty surcingle or saddle. I also like that they are springy which seems to help him respond better to lowering his head than the stiff side reins did.
