Thought this would make scooping up the poop easier and in theory it should but the scoop is completely flat meaning while you hold it to scoop the poop you hand is touching the ground as well or poop as well. It should be angled so your hand stays clean. The design of this is 1 star the rest of it is OK.

I've been through every type of scooper there is. Lately I've been using a child's sandbox shovel, until today. This item works well both as a shovel, or if things are buried down you can scissor around it and pull it up through grass or other foliage. Only improvement that would make it slightly better if it were a bit more rigid for the scoop motion, either thicker plastic or some reinforcing ribs underneath; but this is still better than anything else I've used. It's light, easy to see, easy to clean, and opens wide with one hand. I have a big and small dog and clean up the yard everyday. We have a mess of thick grass, clovers, and other weed type plants in our backyard that make things hard to pick up and dig out sometimes. That's why clamshell spring loaded don't work for me. Only scooper I've found to be as or more effective is a metal garden shovel, but those leave divots when I use them, and I don't like to mix use.

My housemate has an elderly cat who goes into the litter box, pees, then for god-knows-what reason... jumps out, and poops on the floor next to it. We have 3 cats and 4 litter boxes (the "Jackson Galaxy Rule"), and according to my housemate... she's ALWAYS done this. It's frustrating, but I think we can safely take for granted that trying to break a 15 year old cat of a lifelong habit is pretty much impossible... so we compensated by buying a bunch of plastic crate liners (basically, shallow trays that are an inch high around the perimeter) that are a few feet wider and deeper than the litter boxes to trick her into pooping inside the crate liner instead of the floor itself.Our scheme works... but there's still the problem of collecting her poop nuggets from the crate liner tray. This scissor-like scoop is 95% perfect for that task. It would be easier to use if the handle sides were angled upward slightly, but overall it's still a net improvement over having to put on a latex glove and grab a wad of paper towels or toilet paper to collect her daily poop.

Unfortunately this product is not practical for anything but very small, very firm (think older, dried out) feces. Using a plastic bag covering the feces just doesn't work on fresh feces as the scissor action of the product tends to squish the feces making a mess and it is not something you want to see a picture of. I'll be looking for a different solution for picking up after my dog when on a walk.

I ordered this scooper to help clear some of my dogs "leavings" in the backyard and fling them into the woods behind our property.I was a little skeptical given the simple design and that some of the other reviewers weren't super enthusiastic about the product. But it worked perfectly for me - you just scoop underneath and fling. Easy. And it's super simple to rinse off, too, since it's plastic.If anything, it would be helpful to have a longer handle, bigger holes and a smoother joint in the middle so it was easier to use for long periods.But for $9, it nails its intended purpose and I'm glad to have it.

This worked pretty well for me. My small dog makes little tiny poops which don't have much weight to them, so when I try to scoop them up with a hand shovel, they just end up rolling around. Then I have to dig a little deeper to get under them and end up with a clump of dirt. No longer! This made poop pick up easy, and I was able to get under the nuggets while just skimming the grass. Unlike other reviewers, I didn't have problems with my hand having to touch the ground, as there is a slight incline to the handles. My hands are pretty small, though, so I imagine others with larger hands may end up touching the ground. I do wish this came with some sort of cover you could insert into, as I'd like to take it on my walks without having to hold it in my hand. There is a little ribbon supposedly to dangle from your leash handle or wrist, but since the shovel has touched poop, I wouldn't want it dangling and bumping up against me. I might if there were an outer cover that stayed clean. In any case, this works pretty well as a tool to have in my backyard. I'm pretty happy with its function.

I have a medium sized dog that I need to pick up after … was hoping this would be more effective than plastic bags.First, I the holes for the fingers are very small… I’m a 60-something woman of medium build so if I’m having problems, would expect that most people would as well.2nd issue… I’m left handed so this really doesn’t work well for lefties.3rd issues : brittle plastic build that breaks easily.I’m better off with plastic bags on my hands… don’t waste your money… especially if you’re a lefty![LCAR]

These are a really innovative way to scoop poops. We camp a lot and I got these to use to clean up our campsite. You place a bag on the scissor part then place it over the poop and close the scissors under it. Then you turn it over and take off the bag, knot the bag and dispose of it. The scissor tool stays clean, your hands stay clean and the pool is picked up responsibly and disposed of. The size of these is great, small and easy to pack and bring along. We have smaller dogs 22 pounds, 16 pounds and 13 pounds so our piles are huge, but nor are they small. The tool handles them with ease. The feel sturdy and very well made. They function well and make cleaning up a pile quick and easy! I love these! I highly recommend.
