I have a couple of Scotty down riggers. You need these to stop the winch. I lost one so you have to fight your fish plus watch the down rigger. Now since I have a pack I have 2 stops. 1 that stops the ball right at the water lever the 2, brings the ball up far enough to put you grab line on it. They seem to fit my braided line perfectly and do not slip.

Once you get the hang of these, they are great. They spool up just fine in my cannon downrigger when I need to reel everything up
