Welcome!

Inspired by Adventure, Coopers Bay Outdoors offers high-quality products and gear for camping, backpacking, hiking, survival, military training, emergency preparedness, and just plain old outdoor lifestyles.

Our "Scout" model compass is a classic military-style lensatic sighting compass that is based on the iconic U. S. Army M-1950 designed by the Brunson Instrument Company near the end of WWII. Although the basic construction and design are over 70 years old, modernized versions of it are still in use by various military services around the world which is a testament to its original design engineers.

Military Compass
  • Phosphorescent "glow-in-the-dark" markings for low light use.
  • Includes neck lanyard and nylon carry pouch with ALICE clip for attachment to belt of Molle webbing
  • Dual scale graduations in 5 degree and 20 MILS increments for accurate navigation
  • Heavy-Duty cast aluminum body with liquid-dampened needle capsule
Please note:

This unit is balanced for use in the Northern Hemisphere only (incl. North America).

Our "Scout" compass is perfect for those looking for a solid, high quality lensatic sight compass

Due to its similarities to the USGI version, it makes a great low-cost training compass to get you familiar with compass navigation techniques. Features a heavy-duty cast aluminum body, liquid-dampened needle capsule with phosphorescent markings, and a magnified eyepiece that allows for an easy read of the dual-resolution graduations on the compass face (MIL and degrees).

Don't get burned by poor quality versions out there that may LOOK similar....this is a super solid unit that won't disappoint!

The folding cover features an integrated sight line wire, and unfolded, the straight, graduated edge with 1:50000 map scale assists with measuring/estimating distance when doing map work. There is also a neck lanyard included that is helpful while you're on the move. The hinged points then allow the body to be folded down so it can easily fit into a small pocket. The included nylon pouch features a snap-flap enclosure and an ALICE clip is included so it can be easily carried on a regular belt or the Molle webbing on your pack.

"Beware of Junk versions offered by many other vendors"That is what they say, but it's another junk version too...The ring is cheap plastic, the marker is not well aligned, you have no outer scale for reference. This compass is an expensive toy, you find better ones for half the price.

This compass is on the level of the current-issue Cammenga compass at a significantly lower cost. It’s accurate, durable, easy to read, and comparable to the issued equipment. Excellent overall.

can't add a photo, as this item is wrapped for Christmas ;) but I will say this:This is an amazing product! This is so much more than I expected to get for the price it was offered! The only negative thing I have to say is that Amazon dropped the ball on the shipping, it arrived (MUCH) later than expected and I had to stay home on days that I normally would be working in order to prevent the porch pirates from getting it. (not all areas are safe these days, if you didn't already know. Can't wait to teach my son how to shoot an azimuth, and a reverse one too!

There is no luminosity in the compas. I bought this one because it touted the luminosity.
