This wasn't really a very expensive chisel set considering what's out there, at less than $6 a chisel. So I was curious what these would be like. To be honest, I didn't have high expectations because you usually get what you pay for. But I still hoped they'd be good enough for general work, not to displace my expensive chisels. The case was decent and was packed in a cardboard box. The hardware struck me as a little cheap, but the wood and finish was good, and appreciate the effort to provide a non-plastic case. Opening the case, each chisel was in individual cellophane-type sleeves, and were lightly oiled. But as I was pulling off the sleeves, was disappointed to see that a number of the dividers had chipped off, and you can see the beginning of the collection which ended up being about twice that size. I even saw a few dividers cracked but not separated yet (the raised ridges to keep the chisels from sliding/rolling to the side into the next chisel), so they must have used really cheap and brittle wood. So the initial positive impression of the case was dashed when I came to the realization that I couldn't really use it as is, or the chisels would clank around inside. As for the chisels themselves, they weren't finished as well as I'd hoped. It's not unusual to receive woodworking tools that you need to sharpen a little yourself before use and with these, you definitely will want to. But there were burrs and chips on some of the chisels. I tried to take a close up of one of them, and it's not as clear as I'd hoped, but if you look at the left edge, you'll hopefully get the idea. These are OK. They need work (sharpening, smoothing, etc.) but they're also very inexpensive too. So if you don't mind working a bit on them to clean them up, possibly repair the case dividers, etc., you can't really complain a lot with wood-handled chisels in a wood box at about $6 each. They have the potential to be pretty good, but will never replace your good chisels. My thought when I got these was to use these as general purpose roughing chisels or for soft wood, and save the good ones for the fine finishing work or hard wood. I wanted to like them, but there are some issues, and that's why I rated it in the middle.

I was in the market for a really good set of chisels, so I saw these and ordered them. What I got was a fairly good set, not really good. Lets start at the beginning, they come in what first appears to be a nice cherry finished wood box, but after closer inspection the staining wasn't that good. There were several scratches and rubbed places and after opening, every piece meant to hold the chisels in place were broken off. But in all fairness I got them for the chisels not the box. The chisels come individually wrapped in plastic and lightly oiled, with wood handles. The milling of the metal was fairly good, there was some slag left and the blades had knicks in them, which I ground out. You really couldn't use these for fine woodworking but they are good for rough work.
