Update (1 week later): Most of the issues are resolved by firmware update. If you get this unit, first thing to do is to update the firmware. Its a clunky process, need to be done on a PC, but once you do there's a long list of fixes and improvements that you receive.Group mesh works as expected now. Turning off the unit and turning back on resumes connection to last known group, it starts in group mesh instead of open mesh.I opened support ticket via their website and support has not provided any help so far in 1 week. I was pretty annoyed by all this and would've sent back the unit. But I got it at a really smoking deal on prime day, so I'm keeping it. Overall decent unit, just wish I didnt have to jump through these hoop.2nd update on support:Sena support experience has been dismal. Its Email support, I could not find a number to call. After 7-8 days of back and forth, all I got from them was instructions to do firmware update and how to reset the unit. Pretty useless support if you ask me. For a lifestyle product with a high price tag, I found this disappointing.Original Review:I used this on a long distance tour, the group uses group mesh, everyone else has 50s. The problem is everytime we stopped for breaks (lunch, coffee etc), if I turned it off, it would forget the group mesh.At the end of break, when everyone started their sena, this one starts in open mesh and does not join the group it was part of. Everyone else with 50s is uo and running. But this unit needs to be manually paired each time.My work around was to keep the thing running, and connect to battery bank to charge. This is not ideal but that was the least annoying way to keep using it.The buttons are finnicky. Long press to mute mic. But if you accidently short pressed, it would turn off mesh, abd now you're disconnected from your group. Only way to jojn your group, is to stop and someone has to pair you in.I was extremely frustrated by the unit. But when it worked, it worked well.People also complained my mic was terrible. Not sure what thats about. Still looking into these issues. If I cant find a resolution, this has to go back.

I'm not a huge fan of the controls, but for mesh on the Sena network, and Bluetooth music and phone calls, this unit is hard to beat for the price. I wish Sena and Cardo would get on the same Mesh page, but until then, pick a mesh network most of your riding buds are on. This unit accomplishes that on a budget.

Joining a mesh group is so easy. Battery life is outstanding. The Spider ST1 connects to my phone and motorcycle with ease and works perfectly. I wish it was backward-compatible with the older Bluetooth versions, but I knew it wouldn't be when I bought it, so that won't affect my rating. The only problem I have with it is remembering some of the button combinations for less-used funtionality.

Relatively easy to install and easy to use but the connection is very staticky. Tremendous wind noise too. The range is 1.5 miles for 5 or less riders. If you have six or more riders, the range is supposed to be extended to 5 miles but it does not go beyond 2 miles and even that’s under perfect conditions. This is the first Bluetooth device I have ever used so maybe they’re all like that. It’s pretty good for connecting to your phone for music or phone calls but rider-to-rider communication quality is very poor.

I purchased these for my wife and I to use while riding and they work perfectly. The only complaint I have had is that they could be a little more user friendly.
