Product Description

1

The vehicle's anti-lock braking system (ABS) is a safety device that prevents skidding. It does this by releasing the brakes to keep your wheels from locking up. It can also increase braking pressure on a wheel that is spinning much faster than the others. All of this happens very quickly-applying and releasing pressure as much as 15 times per second. The result is greatly improved vehicle control, especially on smooth roads. In order to do this, the ABS relies on the speed sensors on each wheel. This component, also known as an ABS sensor, is attached to the hub of a drive tire and is responsible for monitoring multiple vehicle functions such as traction control, anti-lock braking systems, and the vehicle’s speed.

How to Clean the ABS Wheel Sensor on Your Car

1

  • Begin by loosening the wheel lugs on the front wheel or wheels (depending on where your sensors are).
  • Next, jack the front of the car up and rest it securely on your jack stands. Remove the wheel lugs and take the front wheel or wheels off.
  • Turn the steering wheel opposite the side you're working on. For example, if you're working on the passenger side, turn the wheel all the way toward the driver's side. This will give you easier access to the ABS parts.

1

  • Locate the ABS wheel sensor. Remove the bolts that attach it to the rest of the suspension.
  • Follow the line and wiring harness to see if there are more bolts. Remember not to force it or pull too hard.
  • Different vehicles are set up differently, but the idea is the same in most cases. If you've removed all of the bolts and other attachment components, you should be able to pull the sensor away with no effort at all.

1

  • With the sensor free, take your rag or brush and wipe the sensor until it's clean.
  • Prefer not to use any chemicals on the sensor to avoid potential problems. However, if the sensor is really grungy, use a mild soapy solution and rinse well.
  • To finish the job, reinstall the sensor in exactly the same manner as you removed it. Don't be discouraged if your ABS light doesn't turn off right away. It may take up to a few days for the system to reanalyze itself and reset fully.

The above steps are only for reference, if you do not know how to operate, please consult a professional mechanic.

My 07 Liberty threw a wheel speed sensor code, so I picked up this pair, thinking it would probably be good to replace something like this as a pair. I replaced the driver side rear one, which was the one the code indicated, and the code cleared. Didn’t even have to lift it or take the wheel off. I got under the passenger side rear wheel and because of the angle I wasn’t able to get a wrench on it with the wheel and brake assembly on. At that point, everything was working well and I didn’t feel like taking everything apart so I just left it. That was like a month ago and everything has been fine ever since.Long story short, this worked great on my 07 Liberty and I only actually needed one of them.
