These boxes are quite sturdy, sufficiently magnetic, and close securely.I use these boxes (currently I have 3) as "hook albums": I put 2 or 3 sizes of each hook in one magnetic well of the box, and sort the boxes according to the purpose of the hook. In other words, in my "midge/scud/Klinkhamer" box, the first well holds 2 sizes of Ahrex FW525, the next well has Firehole 316, and so forth. My second box holds an assortment of North Country soft hackle and stillwater hooks, and the third has traditional wet fly hooks. I use a piece cut from a sandwich bag to cover the foam dividers, so that the hooks will not migrate if the box is dropped. This arrangement helps me select the hook that is best suited to the proportions of the fly I want to tie.

I don't fly fish anymore but I needed a way to organize a myriad of sight inserts for my target rifles. The steel inserts fit nicely into the compartments and the magnetic bottom pad keeps everything in order. I'm sure they will move around a bit if the box is dropped, but they do stick down surprisingly well. As well as they stay put, they are still very easy to remove, even with my rather large fingers! Not enough room for dry flies of much size, but should work great for most midges.

Does not hold flies, magnetic base is very weak. The flys go everywhere. Don't buy this box.

Love these boxes for the most part. Slim, lightweight, waterproof enough, and plenty of room. However, the magnetic kind with the compartments for nymphs have one issue with small nymphs. The foam of the compartments doesn’t go all the way to the plastic lid so there’s a gap. It’s not big enough a gap for issues with most flies, but I find all my size 20-24 nymphs end up all over the place in my box. Unfortunately those are also the easiest to lose. Outside of that great box.

Doesn't keep small flies (20-22) separated very well

This thing is actually really nice for size 18 and smaller wet flies. Magnet is nice. If it had a lip seal, it would be the biggest deal ever, but it’s not a killer for me.

Designed more as a tying hook pallet than a fly box. There is a a gap between the foam dividers and the lid so flies will move around and get mixed up if bumped hard or dropped. Should be fine for medium size flies, especially dry flies but small nymphs and bead-heads would move around.

As a fishing guide I need to minimize my gear while still carrying as many fly patterns as I can. These boxes let me go from 14 boxes to 10 and not leave out any fly patterns. The boxes are well built and are a great value. They pack easy and I don't have to worry about flies dropping out when changing patterns.
