I have machines to support my other hobbies, I am not a professional machinist and never have been.I had a fabrication project where a 1.5" notches were needed in several pieces of mild steel plate and .120 wall tube. This cutter worked perfectly through the entire process. I installed the cutter in an R8 collet and it unceremoniously gnawed off material without a complaint. After making several parts, the cutter was still sharp and once the chips were clear, the cutter looked almost unused.I have a lot of Shars tooling and everything I have purchased has exceeded my expectations. I'll continue to purchase other Shars products as needed.

Bought this for a project. Cutting billet aluminum. Worked great. Cut true to size. Good cutter for the price.

Worked perfect for me but, I was cutting aluminum. Still, seems fine.

This is an extremely cheap 6-flute 1.5" HSS endmill. It's way cheaper than anything else I've seen. The endmill I received was indeed usable but just barely. One of the teeth on the end is longer than the others, making it difficult to avoid taking an extra-deep cut on that one tooth. If you only use it for side milling, that might be ok. Taking interrupted cuts is rather... jarring. If you want to do serious machining, don't buy this. If you just need a large end mill for a one-off job, you can use this, but then go very cautiously when using it.

I'll be straighforward and say I had zero experience with Shars prior to this, but wow. I was going to compare it to my niagara cutters, because I consider them the gold standard, but this has easily become my go-to cutter if I need to remove a lot of material. It's not carbide, but it's so stinkin sharp my Sieg SX3 clone can take chunky depths of cut in aluminum and respectable cuts in 303/304. I definitely underestimated them, but I won't do that again.

Granted, an end mill is not a spot-facing tool, but I have successfully spot-faced many a hole with an end mill before, and that is what I purchased this tool to do. It has WAY more dish than I expected, and I had to re-profile it to work for my purposes. 3 stars, because even still it is pretty sharp and has minimal runout for the price I paid.
