I was on a 46t-36t Ultegra R8000 drivetrain finding myself wanting more power on the flats and downhill. I originally wanted to get a 50t-36t set up, but it was sold out everywhere. Finally after doing some research I realized if I change the smaller ring to a 39t I could use this 53t. I am happy with the change, but at times I find myself climbing hills on the 39t and it is a bit too big for me, and I could fix that with a larger cassette in the back. nevertheless I feel myself getting stronger and adjusting to the new chainrings. I would not suggest going this large if you are truly a beginner. The chainring itself works great and I'm happy with the purchase. And remember if you buy this 53t large chainring you will need to have a 39t small ring.
