I came across this knife, I think on the Shun website; but the price was better on Amazon. I bake home-ground whole wheat bread weekly, so do a lot of bread slicing; and a lot of sandwich making. This utility knife is far superior to the usual serrated “bread knives”. Just saw a segment on PBS in which the chef tested a bunch of serrated knives (not this one) and found that the fewer and deeper the serrations, the better it worked for bread and sandwiches. Slicing tomatoes and the like—also better with this knife than other knives. It’s not best for everything, but where it excels nothing comes close. I bought another identical knife as we have a house we rent and live in part-time. The Sora is about half the price of the equivalent Shun Classic; but aside from the aesthetics of the handle, I can’t imagine the more expensive knife works better. These make great gifts as they are reasonably priced, obviously high quality, and sensationally effective and useful.

I just love this knife. It doesn’t matter that I have an entire block of knives, this is the one I reach for. It is so easy to use and serves so many purposes that I find myself using it nonstop. Great multi purpose knife. It makes me want to go out and find it some new friends.

Recently I’ve been converting over to Various Japanese knives and learned a lot about the metallurgy. Depending on the use or frequency I’ve spent more on some than others. I really wanted a sandwich knife but didn’t want to spend $100, cheap knockoff or some offbrand. As luck would have it this came on sale for $55 so it was a no-brainer as I have a couple other shun knives. This knife excellent for spreading Mayo, jellies, olive spread and then cutting whatever Artisan bread you have for a sandwich. Gone are the days using small butter knife then using 10+” bread knife to cut. This knife makes preparing lunches fun! VG10 Steel excellent knife steel not to brittle, doesn’t chip and holds edge well. Sure plastic handle is boring but for what I paid I’m extremely happy!

I LIKE this knife. It's sharp. Don't nick your fingers if you don't have any paper towels near by, because it'll do its job.The serrated blade is great on breads, pizza, certain meats, I've used it on pie, and to spread peanut butter right out of the jar. I don't use it to open boxes or slice cake, but I have used it as a spatula. This really has become my go-to knife in the kitchen. If you think you might need this knife, that you ought to get this knife. That's all I've got to say.

I purchased this knife, or one very similar to it, a few years ago. Having had one of those senior days recently, I inadvertently placed the knife in the garbage. Since I really used the knife a lot and loved it, went ahead and ordered a new one. Not sure if it is the same, though. I could not fine my original order. Anyway, it was packed very well, arrived on time. I think it may be a tad different in the handle, though. I used it this morning when chopping celery and tomatoes. So far, so good. I hope I do not throw this one out but instead have many years use out of it. Time will tell. I am very pleased with my purchase. Thank you.

La hoja y el filo muy bien, el mango deja mucho que desear, se ve y se siente de muy mala calidad.

I use it to cut exceptionally thin slices of bread to turn into crustini at work. I use it to cut avocados. I use it to cut pears. I use it to cut everything at work. It's quickly become my new absolute favorite knife. SO SHARP. Such a beautiful edge, and so damn sharp! And any time i feel it's getting a little less than so damn sharp, i just run it across my honing steel and it's perfect again.

Amazon's Shun Sora knives are hands down the BEST kitchen knives you can buy on this website. Especially for the price and the name brand. They're high quality, high carbon steel, and super versatile. They're super sharp out of the box without a single fingerprint on the mirror polished metal. I would recommend these knives to everyone in the market who is looking for a high quality kitchen knife. True Shun quality - at an Amazon price. Unless you're a chef/hobbyist who knows what specifically you're looking for in terms of high end kitchen knives - you need not look further. They look, feel, and perform phenomenally. You need to hand wash these knives (yes, actually) and a whetstone to give these types of knives their proper maintenance (as required by useage) - I recommend a 1000/6000 grit whetstone to give the knife a good edge and nice light polish shine. Without proper maintenance your knife edges will rust, get beat up, and that sounds like a personal problem for you at that point. I could not be more pleased with these knives. I would definitely recommend these knives.

I absolutely love these knives. The profile of the blade is great and they are really sharp right out of the box. I purchased the Santoku, 8" chef, 6" Chef, Utility, Ultimate Utility, bread knife, and pairing knife. Not only are they a great looking set of knives to display in your kitchen, but they truly do take your cooking to another level. Some people complain that the polymer handle feels cheep, but these knives are perfectly priced for what they are. The polymer grip is comfortable and its profiled it such a way that it looks great. These knives truly show the mastery knife making at work at Sora. I also have a some Wusthoff Classics, Messermeister Elites, and a set of the Calphalon Katana. The Classics and Elites I love. The Katanas not so much. These Soras are the best knives in this price range and I love them. My favorite out of all of them has to be the 7" Santoku, but all of the others are great to.Some people say they got rust spots on these knives. Well more expensive knives have a good side and a bad side. They are great because you get better blade profiles, with a blade that holds an edge a lot longer and is much easier to sharpen, but the down side is they are prone to rust. You shouldn't just leave these knives laying in a wet sink for days like you can do with cheaper knives. You should do that with any higher end knife because they will all get rust spots. Also I can not stress this enough. Do not put these knives in the dishwasher. When you finish using them. Hand wash them in soap and water. Hand dry them really good and put them back on your knife rack. Also make sure you knife isn't wet from placing wet knives on it. Putting your good knives on a wet knife rack is a good way to get rust spots. These really are great knives that are very easy to take care of with a little respect and a few steps, and these are possibly the best knives in the price range. These or the Messermeister Elites. Though the elites are a little more expensive than these. You will not regret buying these Soras'. Also if you purchase these. Get yourself a nice knife rack to display them. The beautifully crafted knives look way to go to be thrown in a knife block or drawer.

This knife cuts effortlessly. In fact I need to change my cutting habit and reduce the strength I put to it when I'm using it. Indeed this is my first knife of this category. It also looks rather different, the wave pattern on the blade is beautiful. Of course that's not the point in case of a knife, but it does please the eye.

...I recently found rust on the blade edge. Keep in mind that you cannot use this knife in the traditional sense of chopping, more of a slicing motion is required. Very nice size/length, comfortable in the hand and sharp.
