Have all compatible parts per description above, but this simply does not work.Installed compatible apple ssd, and installed the board on PCIE on motherboard.Computer would not even boot to BIOS, simply hangs recognizing device. Remove the board computer boots well.Tried different PCIE slots, tried different motherboard, but the result is the same, it simply will boot (even to bios).

I bought another board that did not work (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H7B8D36/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Wouldn't even register as a device. Sent it back. This one works great. It does sloooooow booting down as the BIOS tries to figure out what to do with this and then the OS tries to decide what to do. Before I figured this out, I rebooted and checked BIOS and tried several things. It was late, after 1 a.m., I had had a few beers, I nodded off. When I awoke to the pitter patter, oh, that's another story. When I awoke, there was the Bionic Beaver looking at me. Fired off gparted and got a set of partitions (see pic). Checked info and low and behold, an Apple (proprietary expensive garbage) drive with what, an unknown partition. HFS+ could not mount. Hmmm, problem. Tried a few approaches, messed with sectors start, end, size and no luck. Time to go to bed. Next day I ask my spouse if the drive was encrypted. Yes, was the response.I usually average aspects of a product and only give out a 4.5 and reserve 5 for exceptional products. I hit this drive with various approaches to mount the sda2 (see pic) partition and never did I get a complaint of not being able to access the drive. Bootup was really, really slow, I recommend beer or two while waiting. After that, both Windows 10, Ubuntu Bionic and Mint 19.2 worked fine with no system slow downs. Couldn't fix accessing encrypted drive. Need another approach, like virtual Apple. So, I give out a 5 because I should have bought this board first, but I am frugal, trying to save that 7 quid. Thank goodness I could send back the bad board free. It worked, no complaints from various OS's and it does not slow down system after it finally boots.

This part works well, and is probably the best way to connect an Apple PCIe SSD to your classic Mac Pro 1,1-5,1.I've purchased two, and the second was missing the screws to mount the heatsink. The SSD I used (SSPOLARIS) was too wide to use it anyway, so it was not an issue, but still a little annoying. Besides, if your Apple SSD doesn't already come with its own heatsink, you probably don't need one, and the Mac Pro's PCI fans are extremely efficient. If you're installing in a PC, consider ventilation.

I bought this for my 2009 Mac Pro (running High Sierra) to boot off an SSD (Apple OEM SSUBX 1TB by Samsung). Boots just fine, though I had to go into System Prefs to set the SSD as the boot disk. I'm getting ~1400 MB/s reads and writes. It wasn't clear from the description if this would work, so I thought I'd add this review to confirm it does work on a 2009 Mac Pro (and presumably other Mac Pros as well).

So glad I found this. It took a lot of researching as not all SSDs are listed as compatible. This worked for my Samsung 512GB SSD from a 2015 Macbook Air with SSD part number MZ-JPV5120/0A4. With help from the seller, I was directed to this item as the compatible adapter and sure enough, it worked perfectly in both my old 2009 Mac Pro and a brand new Windows 10 desktop. Of course reading the files was done on the Mac Pro (for recovery) and when finished, I installed into the PC and reformatted for continued use in my new machine. On the PC I'm seeing 2200/1500 MB/s read-write speeds so that's pretty great!UPDATE: The fan on the adapter is noisy and intermittently makes loud high pitched sounds. I understand this is a value priced item so I'm really not complaining -- just informing. I replaced the fan with a German made "Noiseblocker NB-BlackSilent Fan XS-1 50mm x 10mm" from Newegg & wow, true silence. Highly recommend this solution at $10 additional. Leaving adapter as 5 stars as you can't sell an adapter at $20 with a $10 fan on it so I understand the manufacturers dilemma. Now you know.

Great product - Works well for Retina MBP's, Mac Pro'2, etc PCIe SSD. It gets every bit as much speed as if attached directly to the official Apple bus. Card working great in a Akitio PCIe Thunderbolt 2 enclosure.
