Your cart is empty.Perfect for the busy hockey player/parent or those who don't have a good skate sharpener near by. Why trust your skates with the new kid at the shop when you can get your own pro-shop quality sharpen yourself with the Blade Barber? The Blade Barber Skate Sharpener uses a tungsten carbide blade to shave steel as it sharpens your skates. This is more than an edge touch up tool, it actually removes steel and sharpen skates. No other tool can replace a completely worn edge like the Blade Barber can.

I use it to touch up our skates after ODR and it keeps me from always going to the pro shop.

It’s more expensive than some other handheld skate sharpeners but it’s worth it. Your skating can suffer if your blades aren’t consistent sharp. It’s fairly easy to use with a couple minute practice. Saves money from repeated trips to the pro shop. I found that pro shops don’t always do a good job either.

Just so that it's understood, this does sharpen and remove metal. You have to get a feel for using this. When it's positioned on the blade, you can feel the extra space on both sides. Slow and steady works, follow the directions. Used it before practice and I had something to skate with. This is not a substitute for sharpening, but it will save you when you need an edge.EDIT: While the sharpener does work, it creates an uneven edge and is uncomfortable to use.

This tool is great for maintaining that truly sharp edge. I recently had my skates sharpened by a shop and got crisp clean edges but after a few hours of hard skating, started to feel a little sloppy. After watching the video for this tool, I followed it using a sharpie, two pucks from my bag, a towel and even a tooth brush to keep cutting edge of tool clean for every cut, I was amazed how well and how easy it was to use. Got back on the ice and it was like a new set of blades and my performance was back on top. Major dings in blades I would still recommend having them professionally sharpened but for the in between times or even in between periods of a game, this works awesome. No more dull blades in my future

I like the product. However, learning the proper technique is very important. Worked great once I got the hang of it. But it’s not something that should be relied on and you should get your skates machined sharpened by a trained person.

This tool is a life saver, I use this before every other skate and I feel like I’ve got perfect edges each game. I’ve noticed if there isn’t enough downward pressure to keep the blade level, it will mess up the edge, so patience is key. I’d recommend this tool to anyone who likes having sharp edges, or who doesn’t have the luxury of being near a trusted sharpener.Having the Blade Barber takes the worry of “if I’m getting a good sharpening, at my hollow” away. I’m blown away that these tools haven’t found a place in all locker rooms yet.I’ve used mine for over a year, and I’ve gotten way more than the 25 sharpenings out of it. Granted, I try to routinely keep the edges, and that’s translated to way more confidence on the ice.Give it a shot, make sure to watch the instructional video, as it’s crucial to keep the tool level.

This product may serve a specific purpose and have its uses however it destroyed the edge that was on my kids skates. I watched the videos, read the instructions and what I ended up with was a blade that lost its hollow and edge. My 5 year old immediately complained when she hit the ice. I watched her suffer and she was like a baby giraffe learning to walk. I immediately went to the on-site sharpening service and had a new edge put on the skates. My daughter immediate said its fixed and feels normal. Its a great concept and may serve a specific market segment but for me its did more harm then good.

I bought the 1/2" roh model.I usually use "Edge Again" and a honing stone on my son's hockey skates. I also tried this one my own skates just as curiosity. My son plays in house league and I just skate leisure. We both noticed with the blade barber there is no question, we both felt a significant and noticeable bite in the skates. Not so much with the honing stones and other "edge again" product. For this product, I think there are GREAT reviews and "1 star" bad reviews for this product. I'm convinced this is a function of inability to use the product properly."THE TEST" ?I thought I try this product for myself : So? I brought the Blade Barber to the arena. I tried to skate myself WITHOUT any sharpening product, then I went to the bench, used just a honing stone product (A&R Re-edger) and went for a few rounds of skating. Then I came back to the bench, I tried a manual "EDGE Again" sharpening contraption and went for a skate. Then, I came back and tried this blade barber 1/2" ROH product and went for a skate."WHAT DID I FIND?"--- Blade barber had a significant noticeable difference in the bite. the 1/2" roh blade barber felt like I just got my skates sharpened from a store.--- The honing blade (A&R re-edger) was somewhat noticeable--- The Edge Again product was making my blade feel dull ; by the way Edge Again product was used a dozen times before though however they claim the inserts last 25-30 sharpenings so it should have been fine?So i fully support the "5 star" reviews on here. I think this is a decent product that actually works. It is so far the best sharpener DIY home product out there IF USED PROPERLY.I will make a point here, the instructions alert you to a youtube link that implores you to watch. I highly recommend watching and learning and practising before your make a judgement. I think it takes somewhat finesse and practice to make this product work well for you in-between proper professional sharpening's.Once a gain, I think a professional sharpening is a MUST but in-between, this product seems for me the one that makes the most impact on me, based on some tests and it is the one that makes my son tell me the skates felt "sharp".I hope this helps -- i tried my best to test this as objectively as possible.

I’m sorry but I had a terrible experience with this tool. My blades were super dull after using it. No edge whatsoever. I’m sure others might have had a better experience, but this is my honest opinion. I feel that there are better edging tools on the market that are cheaper as well.

The learning curve for this tool isn't steep at all. You'll be sharpening your skates in a few minutes. The only tricky part is ordering the correct model for the size of your roh (hollow). The rinks and pro shops I use to sharpen my skates never tell me which roh they put on my skates. I took a guess and ordered the 5/8" Blade Barber model, since that is the hollow that many hockey websites recommended for my weight and skating style. I don't think it was an exact match for the hollow on my skates, but it was close enough and I was able to sharpen them with no problems. I just had to take a few more strokes than the 3-4 the manufacturer recommends. I'm guessing I'll only need 3-4 strokes for the next sharpening.
