This is an excellent head and super portable for a fluid head. The only negative is that, for the vertical adjustments, you have to overtighten to keep it from falling which creates a jittery start in your movement. This is typical of low-end fluid heads, but frustrating nonetheless.

This SmallRig CH3 Video Head is an exceptionally well-made tripod fluid head that impresses with its premium fit and finish. Despite its compact size (weighing only 271g/0.6lb), it can support up to 3kg/6.6lb, making it a perfect companion for both lightweight and heavy-duty setups. The 75mm height and 44mm base diameter make it highly portable, ideal for travel or quick setups. It offers smooth pan and tilt adjustments, with fixed damping for effortless operation. You can achieve a 360° swivel and a +90°/-70° tilt, making it perfect for multi-angle video shooting. The included quick release plate is compatible with Arca-Swiss, allowing you to quickly switch between tripod and handheld shooting, and it’s versatile enough to support both cages and L-brackets.The removable telescopic handle adds to the portability and ease of use, and can be attached to either side or front and back for maximum comfort. The 1/4”-20 screw and 3/8 threaded hole make it widely compatible with most cameras, cages, tripods, and monopods. With flawless design and construction, this fluid video head is a must-have for anyone serious about high-quality video production.

I really like this video head for two main reasons. First, it is a nice compact size for a smaller camera/smaller tripod setup, and it operates in a smooth, gliding motion. The video head is well constructed of what I believe to be aluminum. It is machined well and is very smooth to the touch. I had no issues attaching it to various tripods for use. I mainly used it with a DSLR and the plate attached easily and fit snugly and securely into the head. Everything swivels and tilts very smoothly. The locking mechanisms work well and I experienced no issues with slipping. At the current price point (around $40 / December 2024), I found it to be a really good value.

I love this video head! It's very smooth when panning and tilting, and can also be locked down tight. It has separate knobs for locking down or releasing pan or tilt. It doesn't have a levelling head so you'll need to be sure your tripod is level. I have this on a monopod that only had a 1/4 - 20 tripod mount and it works great! The SmallRig head has a removable Arca Swiss type quick release so you can attach it to your camera body then quickly put the camera on this head without needing to screw it in and unscrew it every time. This video head is now always connected to my previously difficult to use monopod.

We can connect this to any tripod with the larger than 1/4 - 20 thread for a mount, or, for most tripods, they seem to have a quick release plate, and we can use that as well. We would just need the larger screw for that, and some of my quick release mounts include that. The larger screw is the one which would hold most of the smaller heads anyway.I have a host of different sized tripods, some without a quick release plate (or any plate, just that larger screw (I forget the size)). These will all work perfectly with this Fluid Head. If I am using this with one of my tripods with a quick release, I just lock that down tight, and make use of this one.It works with small camcorders, and probably one of my larger ones as well, but I am working more with Action Cameras as "studio, and field" cameras these days... and this is perfect for those!Five Stars, wonderful device!
