I thought for sure these would be twice as bright as my five watt Well lights. They are exactly the same brightness. Starting to think low voltage lights just can't be bright enough to light up my 10 ft palm tree

I'm replacing a similar light in a 'wishing well'. I was looking for a light that used the MR16 size bulb. However, these COB, newer tech LEDs look plenty bright and my experience with LARGE COB lights has worked out well.

The SMY brand 12 Watt LED low-voltage outdoor well light 4 pack is presented as a premium quality and very good-looking low voltage outdoor lighting fixture. A 12 Watt COB LED unit with a 3000 K warm white rating pushes light out the top and through the partially shielded lid of the fixture. This luminaire uses the very latest COB (Chip on board) LED lighting technology consisting of many small-chips integrated into one large single chip.COB LED technology, differs from traditional LED (SMD Chips) whereby individual chips are soldered to a circuit board and then mounted to a heat sink. The Wafers are cut into hundreds of small semiconductor crystal bonded directly and allowing solderless fabrication and maximum heat dissipation. The COB LED achieves higher light levels with a more uniform appearance than its predecessors. COB technology offers increased levels of light dispersion and has greater reliability and a longer life span than traditional SMD LEDs. The yellow disc observed in the middle of the COB Chip is simply a phosphor coating, enabling complete control of color temperatures. This type of LED technology makes chip densities up to 70 chips per square centimeter possible, and promises to offer much more flexibility and better brightness over other LED technologies. Expected lifespan for this type of chip is approximately 50,000 hours, or 20 years of use assuming approximately 5 hours on time daily.A 2 foot long 18 gauge wire then connects this fixture to either a new or pre-existing cable leading back to a suitably sized transformer (not included) used to convert 110 V household power to the 12 V needed for this, and any other related low-voltage lighting landscape fixtures installed. What makes this fixture unique and worthy of the mid-level price point? Let’s start with the IP 67 waterproof and a wide range of operating temperature ratings that provides peace of mind this product has the build quality required to provide years of reliable service throughout the harsh realities of Canada’s 4 seasons climates. The single most defining feature of this unique fixture would have to be the beautiful, yet functional deflector grill adorning the top of the fixture. Although well lights, by design, are intended to be inground and therefore mostly invisible, this one can be proudly displayed! From a functional perspective, this grill will be a fierce protector of this fixture from every day outdoor perils such as lawn tractors passing over while mowing, kids playing, etc.The main body of the fixture is extra thick ABS approximately 3 inches in diameter and with ribbed side wall construction to encourage improved cooling interchange with surrounding environment materials. Other budget priced well lights known to this reviewer have a fixture diameter considerably smaller, and constructed of plastic thin enough to crinkle and collapse with normal human handling. This reviewer has had the pleasure of designing and building several low-voltage outdoor landscape lighting systems since the 1980s and has greatly enjoyed the incredible advances in the quality, variety, energy efficiency, and related benefits during this time. Installing low-voltage lighting is both easy and extremely gratifying as the rewards are extremely tangible and instantaneous. We use a regular 4 inch deep edger to push out shallow subcutaneous type trenches in the lawn turf, gently insert suitable gauge copper low-voltage cable, stomp the turf back in place and presto-ready to install the fixture. Unlike regular 110 V household power, low-voltage current is so negligible that we leave the transformer powered on during the install process to receive instant feedback that joints, connections, and fixtures are working properly. There is no danger of electrocution or shocking.Another good shortcut hack for greatly reducing installation time and effort for these well lights is to install them embedded directly into wood chips/mulch. The attached pictures illustrate well lights embedded in 10 inch deep wood chips arranged in a continuous bed connecting half-century old trees lining the edges of the lawn on site. The low-voltage cable is super easy to embed a few inches under the top of the mulch, and a new well light is installed at the base of each tree. The mulch provides a well-drained yet supportive environment for the lights and offers easy flexibility for fine tuning adjustments as needed, while simultaneously choking weeds and enabling straight and easy runs with lawn mowing equipment rather than going around in circles while cutting and trimming around each individual tree. The beauty of these lights properly installed is that you don't see them, and the focus instead is exactly where it should be: the tree or other object to be highlighted.Although we already greatly enjoy dozens of low-voltage lighting well lights here at the tree farm home base (pictures attached) similar in function, they only produce a 5 Watt lighting output, less than half of the present item under review. They also lack the build quality and attractive appearance of these magnificent fixtures.Although these lights would certainly work well alongside existing inground forest lighting cousins, we want to deservingly showcase these attractive and higher powered fixtures, rather than hiding them like all of the other well lights already installed on site. This reviewer has reviewed, evaluated and installed peer product well lights ranging in price between approximately $10 and north of $60 per fixture. At an approximate unit cost of $15, the present product under review offers build quality and features similar to the super premium models, but at a price much closer to the budget models. An excellent price/value metric is offered accordingly. Conclusion:The SMY brand 12 Watt LED low-voltage outdoor well light 4 pack is a premium quality and ultra good-looking low voltage outdoor lighting fixture with an excellent price/value metric. An overall product score of 5/5 is assigned accordingly.

I used these lights to replace two spotlights that were pointing up at my fireplace in the front yard after one of the spotlights failed. I never liked those lights because you couldn't mow the lawn over them, I had to weed whack around them instead. Plus, they weren't that bright so they didn't light up the entire fireplace to the second floor. These lights are great. They are nice and bright and throw light really far, all the way up my fireplace. Plus, they are low-profile enough when buried so you can mow right over them - awesome! (Naturally, I wouldn't drive on them directly, though.)I like that they have long wires, so it made it easy to integrate them into my existing wiring without having to run extensions since the wires on these were long enough to reach where I needed them to go. The warm white light looks exactly like the other warm white lights in my front yard. These feel like they are built well. They've been through a few rainstorms already and I haven't had any issues with them yet. If they ever fail, I will update my review. They are a good value so far in my opinion.

These worked well on testing. They do project a lot of light and are very sturdy. They are plastic, not solid brass like other well lights we already have; however, I think they will hold up well in ground. Of course, they cost less than the solid brass light, and are a good value. Can't wait to finally get them installed.
