This collar is well made, and the collapsible sections makes it a little easier for the dog to navigate tight spaces. The material is also pretty durable so I'm hoping the collar will last longer than the typical plastic ones. (With all the bumping our plastic collar gets pretty beat up after a couple of weeks.) The material is water repellent, but not water proof. Our dog tends to slobber when drinking so the plastic collars have the advantage here. Most important part is choosing the correct depth (length of snout coverage) so the dog can't manage to work their leg/paw around the cone. Our dog is a bit of an acrobat so finding the correct size was cruicial.

I ordered a large of this cone because my dachshund mix dog has a 15 inch neck. I'm sure you could get it tight enough to fit his neck, but the cone is so long he would barely be able to hold his head up, much less move around the house effectively. Really disappointed because I love the color and the quality seems really high. The velcro is strong so it will stay together. The fabric is soft and flexible so I think it would be comfortable to sleep with. Altho the depth of the cone would most certainly protect him from getting to his stitches, there's no way he would be able to wear this for 10 days at that size.

The cone is a great improvement over the stiff, plastic cones. The cone fits our 61 pound boxer mix perfectly, and she has a moderately thick neck. She does not like having it on, but it is much more comfortable for her than the plastic ones. I was able to wash the cone easily in our washer and dried it in our dryer with no issues. It's a worthwhile investment for our aging dog.
