Springfield makes very good products, this is no different. The base is solid, and we'll machined. The mounting holes are straight, but file off any burrs underneath that weren't cleaned off. It's painted with a protective coating, aka a clear coat. I usually sand it off, prime these and paint them a flat black. The paint adheres well, and there is no glare bouncing off them. I think this base will out last the boat. As far as holding a seat, these hold well, and have no wiggle in them. These are cut in a wedge shape, to eliminate that wobbly seat feeling. They are made in China, but so are most things these days sadly. But they are made very well. I have Springfield posts on my seats, so I cannot say if they fit other brands. Hope this helps.

Knowing how well my older seats and pedestals work despite being over 10 years I figured I stick with something tried and true. I'm glad I did. Now I can swap the seats around in my boat as I wanted a bicycle style seat for fishing from the bow. If you have Springfield Taper-Lock pedestals already stick with what works.

Re-did the floor in my boat last month, bought this base as it had the same model # as the other 2 in my boat. Fit perfectly, I even painted them Matte black to have a different look.

Good quality, I wish it came with screws. I ordered the wrong seat base, sent it back, and Springfield Marine refunded my money. I then ordered the three quarter one I needed . excellent transactions both ways.

The Springfield Taper-Lock base is an outstanding base for your pedestal boat seat. The Taper-Lock post (ordered separately) locks securely into the base, but is easy to remove by pinching the locking tab and pulling out the post. The Taper-Lock system is the best system I have used if you need to regularly insert & remove the post from the base.Note that the picture and title for this item don't really tell you which style base you are buying (there are 4 different styles shown, but no opportunity to choose a particular style when ordering). The item you are purchasing is actually the 9" full round recessed base (the one on the right side of the picture). This is the one I wanted, so I am very pleased with this purchase.
