About this item

  • The Counter-Snap package includes 50 scored screws, a snap off fixture, a square headed driver bit and complete instructions.
  • We designed the Counter-Snap screws for between the joist to have thread in both boards at the same time.
  • The joist screw won't work between the joist (try O' Berry's 3236) because the separation of thread is greater than the thichness of the hardwood flooring and the subfloor.

The Counter-Snap screws are designed to bind the hardwood floor and the subfloor together, stopping the movement and squeaks, then snap at the score that is set 1/4 inch below the hardwood flooring. Just fill the small hole with a wood filler to conceal it and you're done.We make two screws to stop floor squeaks in hardwood floors. One screw is designed for use at the joist. This screw has two different pitches separated by a section where there is no thread. By having the screw designed this way we are able to have the screw pull the hardwood and subfloor tight to the joist. The joist screw won't work between the joist because the separation of the thread is greater than the thickness of the hardwood flooring and the subfloor. This I know seems confusing but it means that thread is only on the hardwood and not the subfloor so it cannot stop the movement. We designed the Counter-Snap screws for between the joist to have a thread on both boards at the same time. We use our weight to push the floor subfloor together then the fixture forces the head to snap off 1/4 inch below the top of the wood flooring. The Counter-Snap package includes 50 scored screws, a snap off fixture, a square-headed driver bit, and complete instructions.

Our 18 year old house floor has been sounding like a 200 year old wood floor house. The whole kitchen vinyl floored room and laundry room, and master bad room floor, has been squeeking and popping and crunching for 4 or 5 years now. It was bearing on me and my husbands nerves so bad we were ready to yank up all our flooring and rebuild the floor system. We are off the ground and have a good bit of crawl space under the house. My husband had put in some squeek contraptions several years ago, but it only helped for a short time. He got on the internet and found your Squeeeeeeek No More SnapAt Joist screws. These have been an absolute Miracle Item for our floor. I usually don't respond to many items we buy, but I have to let you know how WONDERFUL these work. My kitchen and laundry room is so quiet now to walk on. We are very happy with your product. We have 1/2" think lament flooring throughout the rest of the house but we don't feel comfortable putting the holes through that wood yet. But the vinyl was great. The holes pretty much closed up. I put my blow dryer hot air over some of the holes and my husband pushed the vinyl in to seal it up. But you can't even tell where the holes are. I just can't say enough about how great this item is. We put in 100 screws 12" apart and that covered the kitchen and laundry room. I have a box of 50 left that will be used in our master bath in the coming days. Thanks again for a great product that actually works.

The majority of these work if you can find the stud. I only had a few not break off and then strip out the hole. The between studs kind don't work well at all

Effective, but hard to use. These scored screws break off much easier than the non joist ones. I have several that broke too early and is sticking out of the wood. The ones that are installed successfully reduced or eliminated squeaking at that location. The included bracket does nothing.

I live in a 66 year old house and successfully stopped the squeaks in most areas of the main level, by myself. I was unable to stop two squeaks because they were smack in between joists. Overall, once you find the joists, these really do work! I had to use more screws than I though and to stop creaking noises, I would've needed more. You can really 'go to town' with these screws but I chose not to because I wanted minimal holes in the floor. I gave these screws 5-stars because they served their intended purpose; they stopped every squeak on a joist and ever screw snapped off. This review is long but I am typing all of this to help you out based on my experience. Each screw snaps off 1/4" below the floor which is great for when they are sanded and refinished in the future.First, if you purchase these, purchase a long 1/8" drill bit and a good stud finder/wall scanner. I have hundreds of drill bits but dont were long enough to drill the 3-1/4" holes specified in the directions. I purchased a 6" long 1/8" diameter bit and it worked great. I also used a good wall scanner which I had success with. I still missed the joist about half the time and I will explain why later in the review. When I started, I first identified the squeaks, where it squeaked loudest, I put a piece of painters tape. I also gave myself plenty of time to do this project. It requires patience and time. After I marked the squeaks, I used my wall scanner to find the joists. My wall scanner detects any metal in the floor. It basically detected the nails to hammer down the subfloor and the 3/4" oak flooring. I had to figure out which was which. I used measuring tape and painter's tape to mark/measure several suspected areas. Joists are generally 16" on center. My first mistake was experimenting in the closet near my hallway where most squeaks were. I wanted to practice where the holes weren't noticeable but later realized that between the closet and the hallway was the main steel support beam, so the joists switch positions on either side of the steel beam. After two misses, I found a joist in the hallway. You will know when you hit one because the drill bit has resistance through the whole 3-1/4" drill depth. I also tested each hole with a metal coat hanger to make sure I hit a joist. Another tip: I marked my drill bit at 3-1/4" so I had the proper depth each time. Sometimes joists were 14 or 18" on center depending on duct work, plumbing and other considerations. One advantage I had was half of my basement is unfinished, so on misses, I stuck the coat hanger in the hole, and looked through the joist cavity in the basement to see how far off I was. You can also test drill holes near or under trim so they are more discreet. Most of my squeaks were where two floor board ends met. I placed the screw on a long board next to them with success. When I finally drilled in a screw, I drilled it in about a half inch through the wood and into the metal snap adapter. I then put my feet on either side of the adapter and drove the screw home. I wore socks to apply maximum weight on the squeak and depress it down. Each time the screw pops off there is a loud snap. Each screw was sunk 1/4" in the wood. Squeak was gone! There are no creaks in the immediate vicinity of the screws.I also used these on linoleum, the directions said to just drive the screw in without predrilling so the linoleum can be hammered back over the hole concealing it, but I didn't trust that with the old brittle wood in my house so I still predrilled and you cant even notice.I filled all the holes with wood filler and after it dried, I used a light furniture touch marker on them. You can even notice. My wife did not want me drilling holes in the floor and she hasnt even noticed I did it. I could have used hundreds of more screws to stop other squeaks and creaks in the house but due to time and effort, I decided not to. Overall though, I am very satisfied with this product!

Helped make my floors less squeaky. Do not buy this if you don't know how to use a drill! You do need some experience or you will damage your floors. It probably will work easier if you work in pairs. How I did it.1. I identified where the floor joists are (you can't just put these anywhere. It works by anchoring into the wood floor joists. These are typically 16 inches apart. I am sure there is a great stud finder out there that can differentiate between the joists and the wooden surface. If you have a tip please post.2. I stepped on various planks and tried to find out which ones were moving or squeaking. I decided where the "sweet spot" was to stop the squeak. I typically looked for the end of one plank and a longer one adjacent and put the screw there. My wife stood on the plank as I drilled it down. (most of the time I had to do it solo though).CONS:If the screw does not snap, you did not hit a joist. You need to take it out and fill the hole.Overall great product. Don't get too carried away with putting screws all over. Look for the big squeaks and you will get your moneys worth. Put too many in the floor and you will have an empty wallet and it will look like someone drilled your floor for fun.If you have access to a crawlspace or basement you may want to try resolving the issue from below so you do not blemish your hardwood floors. You can do a quick search for "7 ways to silence your squeaky floor"Also make sure you drill the holes first and use the right bit. If you do not, well then you will splinter off some wood
