I got a Craftsman YT4000 In 2011. It has a 24 HP V-Twin Briggs & Stratton engine with a hydrostatic transmission. After serving hundreds of hours, the tractor mower recently stopped moving. Thankfully, it happened at the end of the season.During inspection I noticed the main belt got stock and broke all plastic pulleys. It was time to give it some deep tender loving care. So I got new belts, pulleys, spindle break pads, and other tune up goodies to bring new life to this tractor. While many argue the hydrostatic transmission is sealed and the fluid does not need to be changed, I disagree that it is a forever thing. Hence my list of materials included the fluid in this review to replace my over 10 years old content.Taking things apart included pulling the rear axle assembly from the tractor. While draining the hydrostatic transmission fluid (through the fill port on top) I found the older fluid to be very dark, to the point a direct flashlight would not make it through.A hint to keep things simple is to ensure you have a way to collect and measure the volume of fluid you removed, so you can slowly put back the same amount. Then, roll the full assembly back and forth to help vent any trapped air front the transmission system. When you are ready to start the tractor for testing, be gentle on you transmission. You may notices small jerking/limping while the fluid pressure regulates. Shortly after things should run like new for another decade of service.Bottomline, this fluid is a suitable option to refresh your hydrostatic transmission.

It's difficult to rate a product like this. It looks good and it works but I can't comment on it beyond that.I bought a used Fastrack SD 54" and had no idea when or if the Hydro had ever been serviced. Now I do.It's a little expensive for 20W50 motor oil. I've seen some owners use Castrol GTX but I paid more because this is made for Hydro and may have additives +/- that are needed. I could not find any data comparing the two oils. Hydros are expensive so I took the easy but more expensive route. My 54" SD needed almost 6 quarts for a complete fluid and filter change
