Very disappointed, I was so excited when it arrived but that changed upon opening the box to find the body of the guitar cracked and broken. To add insult to injury the neck was bowed, so nothing was salvageable. I would not buy again, and returned it and I am still waiting on getting my money back.

I did buy this directly from StewMac and not Amazon but it all comes directly from StewMac anyway so it shouldn't make a difference in the product you receive.Pros:- Everything included in the kit from a parts perspective- Experience you gain in putting together a guitar and working through the issuesCons:- No fret side markers on the neck- Fret edges were rough and will need some attention- There were some high frets but I was able to hammer them down (rubber mallet) and not do a full level and crown- Nut slots had to be filed down a bit as there was some buzzing at the zero fretThis is a great kit if you think you want to dabble in guitar building. It's a great platform and you can make it as nice as you want to or you can just slap it together in one afternoon. For me, I put it together in about 2 weeks. I look at kits like these for the journey and the experience. Otherwise, I'd just buy one already put together. With that being said, there is an expectation that you will need to have some guitar tools and have some basic soldering knowledge. However, the only requirement is the soldering aspect (or have someone else do it for you) to connect the electronics. Everything else, such as working the frets, applying a finish to the body, etc, just adds to the experience. The instructions that come with it are great and the pictures are in color. If you get stuck, there are links to StewMac videos to help you out. This was the first guitar kit I built and I did swap out some of the parts for aesthetic purposes. Just take it slow and watch lots of videos.

Received as a gift. Up front you should know this is a fun but extensive time commitment, not plug and play. Plus you’ll need many supplies not included: sand paper, small file, drill plus various bits, wood glue, soldering gun and solder, tuner, strap, plus whatever stains and sealers you desire. I was able to repurpose some leftover stain (used 4 coats) and opted to buy a polyurethane sealer (used 6 coats) plus I spray painted the saddle black to match the other components. The instructions are fairly clear and the neck is of excellent quality. The box itself is very flimsy and requires a delicate touch when drilling. I encountered some minor issues with parts and Stewmac was very quick to send me a free replacement. The soldering was relatively simple (3 wires) and there’s lots of videos on their site to provide tips. This is my first cigar box guitar (I’m a ukulele player) but I have to say the sound and intonation is excellent, even without an amp.Overall I’m very happy with my new instrument and enjoyed the assembly and customization process.

First of all I wish StewMac would sell these necks separately without the additional routing for the pickup in the base - these necks are superb. As for the rest of the kit all the parts you need to build this guitar are there and for the most part the hardware is high quality with just one real fault. More on that later.I'm still in the middle of building this kit as of this review. This is NOT flat pack assembly. Yes, you will need glue. Yes, you will need to use sandpaper. Yes, you will need a drill. You will need to apply a finish. To get this build really nice you may need some basic luthier tools, which I have, but it's my judgement that it is entirely possible to build this kit without them. There is also a LOT of possibility here for modification and doing something really creative if you have a decent woodworking skillset and take your time.My main issue was with the box/body, which is a basic pine of some sort. It warped and cracked just a few days after I opened the box. It may well be the desert climate here, but to be honest it really shouldn't have done that, and that's why I gave this four stars instead of five. I will build my own soundbox with some hardwood strips that I have on hand - which I wouldn't really be able to do if this was just a bolt and forget ikea-style flatpack kit.

Quality of product appears to be top notch!! Although, you better be advanced woodworker with Fret Hammer, Fret Leveling Tool, Fret Crowning File, Soldering Iron, 4 Drill Bits, Counter Sink, 3 Nut Files, ; All wood is raw & needs to sanded & spray finished! Good Luck!! I’m returning

The kit is basically not too bad, but has a couple of issues. The volume pot and jack are crap and if you want a good player get some replacements and a tone pot first thing. The truss rod in the neck is great, something you very seldom see in a cigar box guitar and you'll more than likely have to really crank it tight to get some relief in the neck for low action fretting. Frets were pretty smooth. Slide players don't care about a high action. You also need to check whether the neck sits flat and straight - I had to shim one side almost an eighth inch so the neck wasn't twisted. It can be a nice guitar, but do some research first.
