Your cart is empty. Firehole Sticks 551 Fly Tying Hook - The 551 is a heavy jig style hook with a 60 degree bend at the eye. It is designed to allow for larger beads without impeding the gape opening.
This is a 1X long length jig hook with a 2X gape. It has a 60 degree down eye and is formed from a heavy weight wire. Available in sizes #4 to #20.

This is my go-to jig hook for tying egg flies with Flybox "Eggstasy" material and slotted tungsten bead. Have caught many trout 20" or more on 551's, size 14, and the hook has never failed me. Really sharp, and rides up so less snagging when Euro-nymphing stony creeks.

My favorite balanced leech hook. I tie in sizes #16-#12s. The hook has a 2X gap with a very slight inward turn at the point. I believe the design of this hook allows better hook sets on large fish, getting the point past the big bone in the jaw. This hook also seems to hold fish better than any other barbless hook I’ve used.The only downside is, although advertised as a “heavy” hook, I have had issues with it bending open occasionally. Last time that happened the fish got the line around a rock on the bottom so there was no give and straightened the hook enough to get loose. But these occasions are rare. If using 6lb or lighter tippet, the line will usually break before the hook straightens.
