About this item

  • Built for speed
  • Imitates the common baitfish
  • Perfect schooling fish lure
  • Runs perfectly in fast current conditions

Strike King’s Rocket Shad is built for speed. You can cast it farther, retrieve it faster and cover more water than ever before. It is the perfect schooling fish lure and a great drop bait too. This lure runs perfectly in fast current conditions which makes it terrific in rivers. It perfectly imitates the most common baitfish — the Shad. Many different species of fish are attracted to it. Try a Rocket Shad and watch fish hit their afterburners to catch one

Great lure, slow or fast. You can super slow roll and it still spins great. Only thing river fish have hit in the last week

First time out with this and I loved it. The distance and control I had was better than the other spinnerbaits in my box. I couldn't believe how good it felt. Because it was easy to control and cast I let my wife use it while I used a smaller Strike King Mini King. I started bringing in small mouth bass right away with the Mini King. After about and hour and 4 fish later I gave my wife the Mini King to try her luck with and went back to this. Shore fishing in a river with this was great as I could really get it out where I wanted to unlike the smaller Mini King.Shortly after my wife pulled in her first bass on the Mini King I got a huge hit on the Rocket Shad. At first I thought I had snagged something but as I let off the rod a little out of frustration I felt the fish pull. Quickly I'm back on it. I'm pulling through a decent current but I can tell this is the biggest fish of the day. Sure enough it jumps and I definitely have a big bass...and then...nothing. Its gone. We all know the feeling right!?! So I bring in the spinnerbait and look at it in disbelieve. I know I had it hooked. And then there is my answer... the double hook is gone. Gone. Now I do know it was a big fish but it was no record breaker. I pull my smaller Rocket Shad out of the box to look at the hooks and it looks like they are one double sided hook looped through a ring on the back of the body and bent into place. The body of the shad is solid and so is the ring but there is nothing to prevent the hooks from bending apart. I'm assuming this is what happened to me. I probably hooked the fish with only one hook and the force pulled the hooks apart and through the body removing the hook from the lure. Everything else about the lure is well made. I'm surprised that this is made in a way that something like this could happen at all. I will think twice about buying the double hook spinnerbaits from Strike King going forward. I have some of the single hooks like the Mini King and love them. I will just have to stick to those.

I used the 0.375 ounce Rocket Shad / Perch on Plum Lake in Wisconsin and, in the space of just a few days, caught 5 northern pike (buzzing over the tops of weed beds) and 2 walleye (running at 5-10 feet deep at a drop off on the edge of a weedbed). I'm going to buy another couple as insurance in case I lose this one.

I love these lures for large mouth and crapie bass. I can work them around lillypads without hanging up.
