I tried this sensor and had a difficult time finding the actual studs. It was difficult to discern what the screen was indicating.

Decades of trying to find studs in older Florida homes always led to frustration. Beeps and lines, then same scan location and no beeps or location lines. Ended up with holes everywhere. Have tested most of the low to mid priced, brand name popular devices, available at hardware stores. At one point just gave up and drilled a hole for a borescope to go into so that I could find studs.Sadly, I expected the same with this device. After all these years would something finally solve this mystery and work as intended? Doubtful. To my surprise, on same walls I've been fighting with for the last 25 years, this instantly found every stud, repeatable every time. I actually spent 15 minutes trying to make it fail by finding a false stud, but it never did. Even width of stud was dead on. It also seemed to accurately show AC wiring where it should be, based on outlet and switch locations. This is the one to get.

Works fine for drywall but don’t purchase if it is being used for porcelain or ceramic tile walls.

This stud finder really works and finds the center of the stud. It shows the most bars at the center, makes a tone at the center and the screen has an indicator that says "center". My unit didn't work on my walls on the half inch setting. I think I have half inch drywall so I was surprised. But it didn't matter, because I changed to the 1 inch setting and it worked fine.It takes about 3 seconds to read the wall and be ready to use. It shows bars decreasing and they are gone when it's ready.I takes longer to get ready to read the wall than my old one, but it gives more consistent results than the old one.

I don't really have much cause for the AC detection, though it did pick up some wires. However, I do have both wood and aluminum studs in my condo and this detector did a fine job finding them. I did have to use 1-inch for the wood but it worked fine.
