I was renting a commercial-grade aerator for $45 a day. Had to deal with picking it up and dropping it off. It was much larger/heavier/cumbersome (200 pounds maybe) and I would have it for two days, twice a year, $180 / year for the hassle. This one from Suchtale, for $250, takes up very little space when stored, which was my foremost concern since it would sit idle 99.9% of the time. Easy to maneuver (50 pounds). Did a fabulous job aerating. Took about three stress-free hours to casually assemble, from unboxing to cleanup, without power tools. Had a minor issue getting the wheels to spin freely and without wobble, mostly my lack of experience I would say. The bolt heads stick up through the platform where bricks are placed for the necessary added weight. So, in order to keep the concrete blocks from chipping and breaking down from bouncing around on those bolt heads, I cut a 1/4 inch floor mat to size and had no issues with the blocks. I could not be happier and was shockingly surprised at how well this unit worked.

Directions weren’t the best, but I’ve seen worse. Took about 1.2 hours to put together. The handle/tire assembly is where the directions weren’t very clear and I made a mistake and had to redo it.The unit is heavy and made of sturdy materials. It feels very solid.I was underwhelmed by the size of the plugs it pulled out. My soil is a sandy clay and it had just rained the night before so the soil was soft, but the unit only pulled plugs maybe .5-.75 inches out of the ground. I had 120lbs of cinder block sitting on top so I expected a deeper plug. I am disappointed about that. All in all I am satisfied but not blown away. I expected a little more, especially for the price.

It's not terrible, pretty easy to put together, but would not buy again. If I had it to do over I would pay a little extra for the better built, more durable Agri-Fab.

I assembled this aerator from the box in about an hour using normal hand tools and a power ratchet. The hardware appears to be good quality, and everything fit nicely. There are no washers, and most of the nuts are nylon lock nuts which made the assembly go fast.I wasn't able to use the aerator this Fall since we didn't get enough rain to soften the turf/clay we have, so testing will need to wait until Spring.I have a few concerns based on assembly - hopefully they don't prove to be issues with any use of the aerator:- The handle to raise and lower the wheels sits on pins that fit loosely in holes in the handle. Hopefully the pins don't wear, bend, or break with substantial weight in the tray and the aerator bouncing across the ground.- The main shaft rests in holes in the vertical brackets that don't have any reinforcement. Again frequent use and heavy weight could cause the holes to wear - but I only plan on using this thing once a year.- The hitch is a bolt-together sandwich - I cranked the fasteners down and it's solid sitting in the garage. Hopefully I won't have to keep tightening it with use. If so, I may end up welding the pieces together.- It's pretty large once assembled, and can't be broken down quickly or easily... so it takes up some room to be able to store it somewhere that the tines aren't a danger to unsuspecting shins and ankles.I'll update this review in the Spring after we finally have a chance to use it.

Local lawn companies want upwards of $800 to do a single aeration/seeding. Ridiculous! With this handy tool attached to the back of my riding mower, I can aerate my 1/2 acre of lawn in a couple hours. So far, it's working really well. Assuming the ground is damp and you have sufficient weight on the platform, the plugs are 1" long or more. Easy peasy!Very glad I bought this, it's paid for itself and then some in the first use. I'll update this review should things change, but for now I'm a happy camper.

I was not sure what to expect since there was no reviews when I purchased this tow behind plug aerator. I opened and assembled in about 30 minutes. This unit is heavy duty. Thick, quality powder coated parts. Heavy heavy duty. Tines are solid. Axle is solid steel. Everything is top notch and every hole lines up perfectly. Every bolt is nylock. I’m very very impressed with this for the price. It’s better quality than the other name brands that I have other tow behind units from. Would absolutely recommend.

Only 4 stars for ease of assembly and use, because there are a lot of parts that need to be assembled, and it took me about 90 minutes to put things together. I also took one star off for maneuverability because this is wider than my "cheapo" aerator from Lowes, is heavier and more sturdy, so I had to be cautious around hills in my yard. That said, this is a big, sturdy aerator that did a fantastic job on my North Carolina clay dirt yard, and I strongly recommend it if you are serious about having a good core aerator!
