Mine came with a white plastic insert, which caused socket to not grip properly. Remember to remove plastic insert before use.

Like others said, it took awhile to find one that fit the water heater opening! I was worried about the thinness but it’s actually quite durable.

White sleeve pulls off to make getting the rod out easy. Perfect

Why the hell did Rheem make it so hard to find something to fit the hole for the sacrificial rod? This fits my 40gallon unit.Thank you to the poster who put this message in their review.

Heard about this socket from another site, specifically bought to remove my old anode rod from my water heater. The standard impact sockets were too thick to completely slide down over the anode rod. Just remove the plastic sleeve with pliers.

1 1/16" is very close to 27mm and can be used interchangeably

The other reviews were spot on. This socket fits the anode on a RHEEM water heater without having to remove the plastic cap around the anode. None of my other impact sockets would fit because they were not thin walled.

While the socket is the correct size, the way Rheem hybrid water heaters are made, this is still too thick to fit without removing a lot of the plastic surrounding the nut (even if you remove the white outer housing from the socket). Since you have to remove the plastic surrounding the nut, any 1 1/16 socket will do.

Short of turning down a deep impact socket on a lathe, assuming you have all that, this is the ONLY deep socket I have found that actually fits and reaches the anode in my hot water tank. After preparing the tank for this job, just slip out the socket's white plastic protective liner and use a short burst from a 1/2" impact gun to loosen it, carefully finishing the removal by hand so as not to drop additional anode material in the tank. The socket is thin and tough enough to do the job.None of my other deep sockets worked.
