This mat is pretty much as it looks - a bit thin with a plasticky main unit with passable sound quality at best. I don't exactly know the use case but there, bizarrely, is a phone stand in the middle and the mat comes with a little 3.5mm cable so you can jam along with music from your own device if you really want to. It won't sound great, but you can do it.It works better on its own. The sound is loud enough to hear but not so loud that it'll drive parents crazy. The drumsticks are plastic and very, very hollow, but they do their job and certainly won't damage anything.I don't know how to disassemble the mat to peek at the internals without destroying it, but poking around it seems the contact pads match up with the buttons (especially the keyboard keys) and have multiple points of contact. So if you run your finger up a key or along a drum pad it'll sound multiple times. You'll have to do that if you want to play fast, too, as a single spot can only be tapped so quickly before it stops registering the next press. The included demos are amusing and varied, even including a rendition of Mamma Mia. Didn't seem to be too much interest in playing along with those with the kids I tried, but with the mat having two separate sides two kids can play along with each other and then spin the mat if someone decides they want a go at percussion.Overall it's a fun little toy that is more consistent at recognizing hits than I expected it to be - as long as you use it on a hard floor. On carpet almost nothing will sound as the contact pads never connect.

This toy has so much potential, and makes me wonder of its origin story. The center power/control/speaker box seems like it was used for another game, one that used a deck of cards perhaps, as there is a big unused slot that would make sense. The volume was so low, that the volume control made little difference. The drums were audible, but you had to lean in to hear the keyboard. There was a jack, and I got excited thinking I could hook it up to a good speaker... but no... it is for a MP3 player. I'm old enough to remember those.I would say it might be good for real young toddlers that wouldn't care, but you do have to wrap it pretty hard.

Our 4-year-old grandson has shown a strong interest in music. Not that he can carry a tune yet, but loves to sing and pretends to play different instruments. When given to him this morning, he got excited and blurted out "A PIANO, JUST WHAT I WANTED!!!"We barely touched on all the options it has, including both small keyboard and drum pads, before they had to head home but the excitement only grew higher. In my humble opinion, this is a fabulous gift for young children interested in music. It builds on that interest with many fun options and features.Highly recommended.

I got this for my niece, who is close to 3 years old and obsessed with her Grammie's piano. But my brother and SIL have a smaller home and don't really have the space for big bulky instruments so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to let her play with some instruments but it can be turned off and put away. This took 4 AA batteries and worked like a charm. The pad tolerates her really beating on it and it can have the volume turned down! The button placement is relatively accurate and so far it's been a hit. The giant drum sticks are easy for her to hold too. It has demo buttons that let music play. Really the only cons to this is that it has buttons showing other instruments that make it seem like you should be able to make sax and violin and other music sounds, but honestly it doesn't really change the sound THAT much. It distorts the piano a bit, but doesn't really sound like those other instruments. But I mainly got this for her to use the piano and drum pieces so I don't mind that. We haven't used it long enough to see just how long the batteries last, but we'll use rechargeable ones. Overall, it's a nice little toy for a young kid!

My children love this mat. The toddler more so than the teen, but they both enjoy it. The drum and piano features allow them to get musically creative, and they can record their masterpieces to dance to later lol. The mat is well constructed, the sound is loud and clear, and even we adults have fun creating a tune or two on it. This mat would also make a great gift.

Fun gift for any occasion for kid music lovers/jam sessions! The mat has a piano and drum set with demo songs, musical instrument options, and recording feature (this is fun for kids to listen to their own song creations). The mat is touch-sensitive and is MP3 compatible. Perfect size - 35.43" x 27.17", easy to roll up when the kids aren't playing with it. Makes a great Birthday or Christmas present!

So starting off my Nephew got a chance to try this out when he was visiting and heabsolutely loved it. He has a good musical ear and even after only a couple days of playing with it he was able to start hitting some notes with ease. He also had fun playing with the drums. He had so much fun with this mat that he didn't want to stop playing, and he was learning cordination skills. My Nephew seemed to really enjoy playing on the piano side of the unit and his face would light up with pride when he'd get a song just right. The demo songs that come with this unit were pretty entertaining and helped my nephew to learn the sounds of various instruments. It even comes with a recording function which is so fun to see how your creations come out. There is one downside it does take batteries but the silver lining is it only takes 3 double A batteries to fully power it, which is very surprising with how much audio it can push out for so little power requirement. The unit is fairly durable, I haven't tested how well it holds up after repeated use but it can handle some moderate banging around and my Nephew was even able to sit on the mat during play. I definitely recommend this item if you're looking to get a musical instrument for a child. It's fun, affordable, and can teach them how to play and practice their creativity. My Nephew will definitely be returning for more playtime soon!

First of all, this isn't a grand piano plus a full drum kit. It's a kid's toy. The volume is set at a low enough level that, even turned all the way up, it won't disturb anybody in the next room. The fidelity is pretty good, especially for the piano sounds, but other instruments are more spotty. The pads for both keyboard and drums are very responsive and seem to have multiple sensors, which makes it easier for young fingers. They don't have to hit the same precise spot each time. The drum sticks are very light weight, and feel a litle flimsy, but that's not entirely a bad thing. Big heavy sticks in the hands of a 4 year old could cause some damage.I found that the mat works better and sounds better when played on a har surface, like a coffee table or a hard wood floor. Carpet creates too much give, so the touch pads aren't as responsive. The sound also seems more muted on carpet. But the important thing is this: the grandkids love it! What's really nice is that the two of them can play at the same time. Granted, they don't play the same song (yet) but they do play together, and there are huge grins while they do.The "play along" feature, using an MP3 player or phone, isn't great fun for an adult because the mat can't really keep up with faster tempo music. But the kids love it! Find a YouTube video of their favorite songs from shows and let them play along. They'll love it.So, yes, it's a toy and not a real musical instrument. Yes, there are limitations that adults and older kids will pckup on. But yes, it's fun and the grandkids are having a blast with it. I'm guessing 40-50 hours of play time so far, and nothing has broken. That's a winner in my book!
