lots of micro soldering in this little solar mill. I was extremely careful unwrapping it and probably came close to damaging it. It works beautifully even with diffused light. I suspect that some the one star reviews came from damages occurring when unpacking. It would not take much considering how well and tightly packed it is. I strongly suggest that it'd be a good idea to take plenty of time to take this little jewel out of its cocoon.

Expected magnetic levitation. Would not rebuy for the special effect of magnetic levitation.

I've purchased all three of the Sunnytech Mendocino motors sold on Amazon. This one might be my favorite. It's really attractive, has more solar panels than the others, and best of all, it is self-starting. If the light is strong enough and close enough to the motor, it will start turning without any assistance. These motors are well made using high-quality components. They aren't flimsy or overly fragile. Except for the magnetically levitated model, which must be light by necessity, the motors have a reassuring heft to them which implies heavy duty construction. This model runs at a middle speed compared to the other two. The levitated one turns the fastest. The one with the flat disk on top is the slowest and most susceptible to accumulated dust interfering with its functionality. These may seem slightly pricey, but they are actually the best value I've seen. The construction and materials used will allow these Mendocino motors to keep running long after most others are in a landfill. I highly recommend these as inspirational animated reminders of the magic hidden inside of every scientific principle. To get the best results, set all three of the motors up in a dust-proof display case with the light sources and motors mounted in optimum positions. Keeping out the dust and air currents of the room will keep these running as long as their light sources are powered up. A bright USB LED task light works great with these. I have one shining on each of them. Experiment with the angle and placement of the light source to find the arrangement which yields the highest speed of motion. Moving scientific demonstration gizmos elevate any educational workspace to the next level. Again, I recommend getting all three and setting them up in an enclosure, for the greatest impact. These are worth every penny. If you found this information helpful, let me know by clicking below.

A++ Recommendation - A beautiful & eye-catching item; it's a major attention getter, well designed, attractive and has high quality electronic components and solar panels. It is a fun, educational and a very different item to have. It works extremely well and I have shown this item in many demonstrations regarding solar energy and IoT devices, and everyone has been impressed. They all loved quality and how beautiful and well built this item is. Sunnytech products are characterized for their quality and beautiful design and they are worth every penny, in my opinion. All in all, you will not be disappointed. This is a must-have for any enthusiast on solar energy and for any educator who wants to convey scientific concepts to a larger audience. Have fun!

I really like this decorative piece. i have a solar panel system and tesla batteries on my house soooo. i thought this decorative piece was perfect for work. like everyone says in the reviews, it works with sunlight only. it won't work with desk lights. LED lights especially don't work. i knew that before buying so i wasn't surprised. can't wait to see more designs.

Works ok in a window when sun is at angle. Plastic nob at top seems to get warn out due to heat friction so longevity is questionable. Would not recommend given the price and issue with friction.

Item does not stay engaged in turning, it keeps popping up and dis-engaging, nice idea, but complete waste of money, it just sits there and does nothing at all
