The starter device that powers both the running and startup windings is apparently the primary "planned obsolescence" item in today's small chest freezers. I tested the windings of the compressor (found a YouTube for this) and they were fine. I then tested for power coming out of the temperature switch and it was fine. So the little startup switch was broken. My 7.0 CF freezer had NO capacitor to reduce the startup load placed on the electrical system so it had a huge startup load that once shut down my emergency power Honda EU2000i generator. Once I put in this new combination device that included a capacitor to help with startup the freezer started so easily. I used a Kilowatt meter (from HF Tools or Amazon) to see how much the amp draw was with the added capacitor. The running watts were 70 something (would be no change) but WOW the startup watts was maybe 200 something which is way down from the 1800 watts shown in the literature for this freezer. Every corner is cut these days in making things so my $140 freezer did NOT come with a startup capacitor which made it problematic when there is a power outage and I want to power it and the refrigerator with a small generator. So I am beyond pleased to have this new startup combo unit to preclude buying a new freezer just because of a cheap part going out. And the new part has the capacitor built into it that makes it massively easier for the power source to start up the freezer.

Soooo… My fridge quit about 7 years ago. Fridge was about 10 years old. The tech replaced this starting capacitor and it ran for 7 years. I bought the exact same one and replaced it. It’s been running fine since then.

Worked perfectly. Got it through the link for "DIY Repairs Now" YouTube , where he goes through the install and within 20-25 minutes I was done and that's includea cleaning the floor behind the unit

Just a note... the URCO410 can be used for a fridge that uses a capacitor or not for the same price as the RC0410 (fridge with no capacitor). The URCO410 comes pre wired for a capacitor whether you use it or not. If you don't use it there is no modification that you need to do. The cooling fan would come on as soon as the fridge was plugged in. At the same time the compressor on my Kenmore Cold Spot refrigerator would hum attempting to start and then a distinct audible "click" and shut down (cooling fan still running). The “click” was the overload protection mechanism of the start relay shutting down the start up of the compressor. It was no longer cooling or freezing. My fridge had a start relay (tan component pictured plugged into the side of the black compressor) and capacitor black rectangular component plugged into the start relay) combination attached to the compressor. The compressor and capacitor both tested good and there is no real way to completely test the start relay (many good videos on YouTube on how to test). I assumed that the start relay was the culprit. I ordered an OEM start relay from Sears parts direct ($86). That didn't work as the overload still tripped. I ordered a start relay and capacitor combo from Amazon ($26). That didn't work either as the overload still tripped. I ordered the SUPCO URCO410 (with or without capacitor). It took less than ten minutes to wire it all up and plug in the capacitor. The compressor started up as soon as I plugged it in.

Who knew that repairing a refrigerator could cost so little? The first thing I said when this part was installed and the refrigerator started to cool was "Thank you, $13 part, for fixing our fridge."We returned from vacation over a week ago to find that our fridge/freezer side by side unit had stopped cooling. There was power and fan noise, but no cooling. So as a family that strives to fix our own gadgets and appliances, we began researching what the possible culprits could be.The unit is a Kenmore side by side that was handed down from my parents. Fortunately, it is only used as a second fridge for overflow items. But, we still rely on it.After some research, we found that the unit had been repaired before, and they had installed a similar starter kit. We tested the compressor resistance and it appeared to be fine. So, we went with the assumption that the issue was the starter kit. After a bit more research, we found that this URCO410 kit was a better choice, so we ordered it.It arrived a couple days later, we installed it with the simple instructions provided (5 wires to attach in our case), and, fortunately, the fridge came back to life.I cannot vouch for the longevity of this kit. But it is working now, and we sure hope it stays that way. This kit was very simple to install and saved us from having to have a service call. And it came at a great price.
