I have been using this in combination with an inexpensive gun sock (4x52" long), to carry my katanas. The gun sock can roll back down over this carrying bag, and allow for open-top carrying, if preferred. Or the whole thing can be tied down, with the sock folded down inside the carrying bag, if you prefer the more secure method.This carrying bag is a few inches longer than it really needs to be, but this facilitates both carry methods very easily.I have used this carrying bag with a standard (slick, strapless) sword bag and it works nicely enough, but it does work better with the gun sock - and the gun sock gives a small degree of additional cushioning from knocks and dings.A multipack of gun socks shouldn't cost you more than 4 or 5 bucks apiece, and each one of these sword bags shouldn't add too much more.The strap on these bags is more secure than the cheapest made ones, and I expect the leather base will resist a wet ground better than most sword bags will - but I wouldn't push either feature too far past "barely adequate.."I have tried several different value based carrying options, and this sword bag is my favorite one to use so far.This is a five star deal (under four bucks) but ends up being "adequate" if the price goes up over five. Though I did pay more than seven for one of these, one time, so what do I know..I have seen the price fluctuate between 3 and 7 something, so keep an eye out for this one..Recommendation: everything really is based on the effective value at an affordable price. Maybe get a few for yourself and try them out.Note to the manufacturer - consider making a 32" Wakizashi sized carrying bag, or even a 20" Tanto version.
