The patented TacStar Sidesaddle mounts 6 extra rounds on your shotgun in a convenient and accessible location for fast reloading. The tough, weatherproof shell carrier is attached to an aluminum mounting plate that installs directly on the shotgun receiver. All mounting screws are included, no gunsmithing required. Installation is easy, and in most cases requires no alterations to the shotgun. Please note: some field grade shotguns may require a modification to the shotgun's forend as the forend will be too long and will contact the sidesaddle, affecting functionality. If you do not wish to modify the forend, we recommend the Tacstar 4-Shot Sidesaddle. Shotguns using the TacStar pistol grip forend do not require modification. 12 Gauge only.

It’s a good product, as all tacstar products are, holds the cartridges very well,Definitely better than the cheaper ones on eBay,But why would you want to put something cheap on your expensive gun?Fitted mine to a mossberg 500 field,Due to the forend overlapping the receiver when racked back you will need to modify it so it doesn’t foul the saddle, or replace your forend with one that finishes flush with the receiver,I’m changing mine so had no problem purchasing this side saddle

If you do searches online, you will find several "cheaper" side-saddles for the Mossberg 500/Maverick 88. I wasted my money on two... one that attached with screws (that were too short, and didn't attach to the plate), and one that attached with double-sided glue. Do yourself a favor and get this one instead. For me, the instructions were clear, and all the pieces fit my Maverick 88 perfectly. I haven't been able to test fire rounds, but when I was finished, the entire assembly fit tightly and flush with the rest of the shotgun. The action cycles fine, with no issues.I managed to drop one of the six (6) small screws that hold the shell holder to the mounting plate, but it seems to fit snugly without the last one. Just be aware that it comes with the EXACT number of tools, screws, and washers. No extras.

Got the TACStar side saddle shell carrier for my Mossberg 590. Installation was a snap. The instructions included are easy enough to read and follow and matched the hardware/configuration on my shotgun. I read the top rated review on the product and thought purchasing the extra nut for the long bolt in the trigger assembly sounded like a really good idea. Unfortunately, I received my side saddle in the height of the COVID 19 lockdown, so a discretionary trip to the hardware store was out of the question. As it turns out, I respectfully disagree with the earlier reviewer that said you needed the nut for the second mooring point. The mounting plate for the carrier has two holes. One is for the front screw in the action and the second hole is for the longer trigger assembly bolt. That second hole is threaded, meaning that when you put the longer bolt in, you screw it into the mounting plate. Therefore, there are actually two attachment points for the carrier to the receiver.Blue loctite is a great idea, however, and I fully support that. I may still go get an additional nut for the longer bolt if I'm looking for something to do later on, but the bottom line is I don't think it's needed. If you do, great - get the additional nut. I'm not casting dispersions here or saying anyone is wrong. Merely that the carrier I received had two, not one, attachment points. The plastic carrier itself was a little curved so you had to press down once you attached one end so that the other end's holes would align. The end side screws threaded immediately. The middle ones needed a little persuasion to get the threaded shaft aligned with the holes, but they eventually went in ok.I have NOT used the gun since I installed it, so perhaps the ratings change if after 10 rounds the thing is rattling around loose. Based on other reviews, however, I don't expect that to be the case. All in all I have a 6 shot carrier on the receiver, a bandolier shoulder strap, and a full magazine, so I'm pretty loaded up if I ever need it. Good value for money and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or buy another one.

I’ve tried a variety of side-saddles for both Mossberg and Remington shotguns and this is the best one I have found so far. In general these things are a bit pricey, but it’s a one-time purchase per gun, worth it to me. The TacStar holds the shells nice and snug (even under recoil and transportation), yet releases them when you need them. Pull straight up on the rim of the shell and they’ll come right out, yet it’s nearly impossible to knock them loose accidentally. I prefer this design over the stick on/Velcro because it’s an integral part of the weapon. The pins and screws provided make for a secure installation and there is zero rattle or wiggle. This is important whether you’re using it for competition, hunting or home defense. Again, after trying a variety of models this is the one that I will purchase in the future for other shotguns. It’s worth the extra money to me.

Read somewhere that this would fit a mossberg 88 and took a chance, turns out it does bolt on properly. The product itself is well made, solid and looks sharp, holds shells pretty snugly. I would certainly recommend it.

I just installed this last night and had a much easier time doing it than I anticipated. It fits my Mossberg 500 pump as if it were factory-built.I am aware that some style forearms, namely those that overlap with the receiver during cycling of the weapon, will be interfered with by this bolt-on, and the 5-shot sidesaddle may be a better option in that case. This was not an issue on mine at all.The base plate that mounts to the shotgun itself is designed to mount to several different brands/models of shotgun with the included hardware. It's not a jerry-rigged setup, either, but a solid mount, at least on my Mossberg. It is made of aluminum and is pretty nicely built. The shotshell holding piece is actually some sort of plastic. It feels reasonably rugged, and should last a long time, but I did notice it was a bit curved when separated from the baseplate (as is required during installation). It flattened right out when the screws were put back in, but it seemed a little strange. I do not consider this a defect. This particular model (#1081159) will fit the Mossberg 500/590/590DA. Obviously there are other models for other guns.
