Boaters need to mark their mooring positions in the off-season, especially in the cold winter months. Instead of using a standard mooring buoy that runs the risk of taking on damage from ice entrapment and the brutally cold water temperatures, our Sully Stick Winter Stick will mark your positions. The sully stick is closed cell foam filled to positively displace water maintaining optimal buoyancy. The base eyelet is reinforced with a galvanized metal bushing allowing you to attach a rope and connect to the anchor chain, securing the stick in place. The blue reflective stripe offers full visibility so you can easily see it when you’re ready to drop your mooring buoy in the water. The spar buoy is available in two sizes- 6” D x 31” L with a 1 /2 “molded hole that sits 18” above the water line and 6” D x 80” L with a 1.725” reinforced galvanized grommet for easy retrieval and sits 48” above the water line. The smaller stick’s internal ballast requires 6- 1 /2” of additional chain weight to stand vertical and the larger stick’s internal ballast 10 lbs. requires 5 lbs. of additional chain weight to stand vertical.Taylor Made is a proud member of the Lippert family, a global manufacturer and supplier of engineered products for the RV, marine, automotive, commercial vehicle, and building products industries. Have mooring chain same as used by Truckers for heavy loads as which offers the ultimate corrosion protection. This sully stick required a smaller chain to pass through its opening but easy to attach to mooring chain. Best part is that it floats 18 inches below the water and Ice surface so is protected from propeller or snowmobile damage.

Some reviewers seem confused about how to use this winter bouy. I've had one for about 8 years now. On lake michigan. Up to 30 inch thick ice during cold winters. The bouy does what it is suppose to do. It sticks up in the ice when the ice is stationary. It slips under the ice when the ice moves. It always pops back up in the spring without damage. Then take it off and put on your summer bouy to moor your boat for the season.

The thimble at the bottom connection point is not corrosion resistant to a salt water environment which significantly limits lifetime of the sully stick in a salt water environment

I was expecting the Sully Stick to sit a little higher on the water so that it would stick out of the ice/snow when the lake freezes. Since the stick is white, it may be hard to see if riding a snow mobile in the area. I put a 6.5lb chain on it like it recommended but I think that may be slightly heavy so it brings it deeper in the water

Now to wait till ice out on Lake Champlain to see if it is still there and the ice did not drag the 500 pound anchor away!!

Purchased to mark anchors through the winter and early spring. Super durable material and looks like it will last many years to come!

this is an item of very good quality, works well as long as you add weight to the bottom (a few chain links is what I used) The smaller size does not change its effectiveness. It stick out 18" from the water.A boat hook or piece of line (rope) is the easiest way to retrieve it in the spring as it is often wet and slippery.

receive my item and found no eyelet on top but a hex plug on top, this buoy has to be foam filled and weighted at the bottom to stand upright in the water. if you weight the bottom with a chain it will eventually wear the the plastic eyelet at the bottom and fill with water.a really bad design.......
