The design is terrible. There's a little drain area that is just not designed well so if you pick up the tray to change the water, you're going to have water every where. The seeds did sprout and you could easily use other seeds with the tray. It's just far too messy to use. Quality wise, the tray is durable but getting water everywhere is not ideal.

I love that this has everything you need to get started. The tray slips in and allows you to tip over excess water very easily without spilling out all the seeds. I messed up my first batch because we had to leave on a trip and I forgot about it. I need to restart with the next bag of seeds. But they do include step by step instructions for you. Just don’t be like me and start it when you have enough time to check on it each day

This kit was really easy to use and the grass grew very quickly. It came with three packets of seeds, so my kitties will have yummy grass for quite a while. The base is nice and wide, with a little lip to catch spills, so I don't have to worry about any messes. I haven't gone through a full cycle yet, so I'm not sure how easy it will be to get all the roots and everything out of the little grow tray, but I don't think it will be too hard.

I have planted cat grass in the past with dirt kits. For some reason, they always got gnats - I guess it was something in the dirt. I liked that this was hydroponic so I gave it a shot. I soaked the seeds for 6 hours as recommended and then rinsed and spread the seeds on the top and added water to the base. I placed them in my closet which is open to the bathroom so it still gets some light. They sprouted overnight, so I moved it to the window still in my bathroom that gets lots of bright light. Each morning I would change the water and clean the base. I loved seeing how fast the roots grew. I would make a minor recommendation to the manufacturer. It’s hard to tell the water level in the base. The directions said not to totally submerge the roots, just have the roots touching the water. Maybe add in a clear panel in the base so you can tell where the roots and water levels are. I took pics of the growing progress. When the grass reached 4 inches I placed it on the floor for the cats. They walked up to it and smelled it then walked away. They weird thing is they both love to eat grass. When we go to our cabin they can go outside and love munching on the grass. I even broke off a piece so they could get a good sniff of the grass juice, but they were just not interested. Hopefully your cats will love it. It would be a fun project to do with kids to show them the growing process. The design was great except for not being able to see the water level compared to the roots.

I’ve grown cat grass for my cats for years, but never hydroponically. This is a much cleaner and easier way to do it. My grass hasn’t grown enough for them to eat yet, but it’s starting to sprout. Day 1 I soaked the seeds for about 6 hours as recommended, then drained them and laid them out on the slotted lid. About 24 hours later they just seemed dry and not like they were going to sprout, so I put a very damp paper towel on them and put them in a warmer place in my house. Within hours the seeds were starting to pop open a little and 2 days later the roots are about an inch long. The little sprouts haven’t grown enough to be green yet, but I can see a little bit of green starting. For me, the wet paper towel was key - I removed that after about 24 hours. You get 3 seed packs and one pack is one “crop” of grass. You can buy bulk seeds and keep it going all year long.

I decided to try this organic cat grass kit, and I'm so glad I did for my furry friend! Setting it up was seriously easy, and even I couldn't mess it up. It sprouted super fast, and now my cat goes crazy for it – it's actually fun for me to watch him munch away. Plus, I've noticed he's leaving my houseplants alone, which is a huge win for myself and my greenery! This stuff seems really healthy for him, and it's nice knowing it's organic.

This cat grass system does work but is not quite as 'clean' as I was thinking. It took a while (in the dark) for the seeds to germinate, and refilling water until then was messy (the supplied tray is too shallow, not easy to move without spilling.)Only about half of the first batch of seeds actually germinated. But, the cats did like to munch on the grasses, but also tended to yank the entire plant out, with roots, which seemed to cause them to throw it up. This also caused the tray to be upset, and so spill water from the tray.I think this is a great product idea, but needs a bit of further refinements, like a less 'spilley' tray, and a way to keep the cats from pulling up and then eating, the roots (maybe a heavier tray?).Compared to the usual 'plant in dirt' seeds, this is fussier to get started, and messier in use by the cats...and seemedslower to germinate for some reason.
