The WoodTone bass pickup produces what seems to be a much broader frequency range than my Realist Lifeline pickup, and sends a stronger signal into my amp with an A-B comparison. Definitely sounds more like the natural sound of my bass and it worked great plugging directly into my amp with no preamp. I like my Fishman Platinum 5-band EQ/preamp to control feedback when needed for higher-volume shows, but so far I've barely needed to adjust much of anything to get a great sound out of it.

The quality of the pickup was great for the $$$ spent. My previous amplification solution was microphone hung on the bass...the Realist exceeds the old way. Now that being said the marketing material says no preamp required but I use a preamp because the pickup alone didn't provide enough signal directly to the amplifier.
