This book gave an insightful look into the raising and training of his particular breed of dog. For the most part, it avoided the generalized advice and information found in other texts about dogs in general. If you want to know your new Westie, this should probably be in your library.

I found this book abundantly helpful with my first Westie adoption, and really good on my second. I could have used more info on specific pictures of the differences between the breed (e.g., show me a picture from the 3 different lineages of the breed, etc.) and much more information about Westie pregnancy, delivery and care. This is however, a good book on the breed itself from a historical perspective.

Nice book about Westies and some generally accepted dog care portions as well. A little witty in some places, and I like that. Doesn't feel like it's just a bunch of junk cut and pasted from somewhere else. There is a DVD in the back, but I have not looked at it yet.

Great reading before or after aquiring a Westie for your family. The excellent photos in the book will have you falling in love with the breed even before you have a Westie of your own! The information regarding standards, temperament & personality, compatibility for your family situation, & general information about this breed in particular are factual, informative, & "spot on". Recommended reading if considering a Westie for your family.

I bought this a couple of weeks before the adoption of my West Highland White Terrier/Poodle mix, Piper, was finalized. It's extremely informative, and even goes into the history of the Westies (where they came from, what they were bred for, etc). The best part (and the one I was most interested in at the time) was their discussion of Westie temperament, and whether you were a right fit for a Westie. It also gives you suggestions on what to have on hand for your Westie, training information, etc. It's very helpful and even though Piper has been here for almost 4 weeks, I still find myself looking up information in this book. Very, very helpful.

The book was in great shape and the contents a great help! If you need to train a new Westie puppy this is the book for you! Also included was a CD on dog training!
