Excellent quality and functionality. I did not use these as their intended purpose, but they exceeded the thermal plans and expectations. I glued these bad boys to the top of the Stock HP VRM Heat Sinks with thermally conductive glue/epoxy. I upgraded an Omen 25L to a Ryzen 9 5950X and obviously pushing the stock HP Hana Board to its limits would cause the VRM’s to over heat and crash the OS with blue screens. Using these as a MOD definitely stabilized the system. Didn’t even need to add additional fans, as the two radiator exhaust fans are close enough to pull air through the pipes and fins. They stay very cool. Excellent design!

23 June 20241) SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen4 MZ-V9P2T0B/AMSold by: Amazon.com Services, Inc $169.992) Thermalright HR09 2280 PROSold by: Thermalright Direct $8.993) Noctua NF-A6x25Sold by: Noctua Cooling Solutions $14.95I decided to go ahead and put a heatsink on this. Heat has been, is and shall always be the #1 enemy to electronics. Unfortunately, heat dissipation engineering is often underrated, overlooked and badly done, if done at all. With this setup, it never gets above 30c during Samsung Magician performance test. Base mobo temp is 29C.Before attaching the HR09 I removed the sticker from the drive and removed the silicone pad from the heatsink and applied Prolimatech PK-3 to the heatsink. The picture shows TF-7 but I found that stuff way too thick and didn’t spread well. I used Acetone and q-tips to get the sticker gum off. The bottom of the HR09 is steel and really needs to be aluminum but the chips are on top so that is where the most heat can be dissipated. I then attached an NF-A6x25 to the HR09 using nickel wire.IMHO silicone pads don't work. I tried the new Zezzio 14.8 W/mK Silicone Thermal Pad and temperatures were 32C during the SAMSUNG Magician performance test. Most thermal pads are horrible so I had high hopes for the Zezzio only to have them dashed. Do yourself a favor, scrape off the included pad and apply PK-3 or equivalent. Remember to get the sticker off the M.2 drive as well.Forget spatulas for applying heatsink compound. All heatsinks are a mm or two larger than the item they go on. The HR09 is no exception. Run tape on the very edge down both sides a mm or two. Apply paste and smooth with a single sided razor blade. Then take tape off. the tape will act as runners for the single edged razor blade to skate on. Hold the blade at an angle, not critical, somewhere between 10 and 60 degrees. Perfect complete coverage without bubbles and uniform thickness every single time. Gives immediate visible indication it worked. You will know in an instant if your paste is good or too thick dried out beyond it's shelf life. Apparently I didn't take a picture of this with the HR09 so I'm including one of a CPU heatsink to give you the idea - same exact concept. On it's own without doing these things, it might as well not be there which accounts for those reviews. Also take your time and augment the high density foam between the bottom of the steel plate and the mobo as necessary. I found the included piece to be of insufficient thickness but I found some from other packaging that I could to desired shape and thickness with that signle sided razor blade.I *almost sourced some aluminum U channel of the correct ID to replace the steel bottom bracket and then I thought naaaa. That'd be taking it to far. LOL

Ok using this with a Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2TB SSD.Drive without heatsink idles at upper 50 to lower 60 degrees, Normal use gets it to mid 60's to lower 70's. During CrystalDiskMark benchmark, the controller temp goes into the 90 degree range and drive throttles significantly.I first got a Thermalright TR-M.2 low profile heatsink. That lowered the idle temps by about 5-10 degrees. Now drive idles at upper 40 to lower 50 degree range, under normal use it goes to mid to upper 50 degree range, and with crystaldiskmark running it reach upper 70 degree range and drive doesn't throttle. Now with this Thermalright HR09 Pro, Idle temp is 30 degrees, normal use temp never exceed 35 degrees, and crystaldiskmark benchmark brings the controller to only 40 degrees! This thing makes a huge difference in drive temps! No fan, no moving parts so no noise. Just have to make sure you have sufficient room to install this huge (by m.2 standard) heatsink. I couldn't use the M.2 slot right next to the cpu because the CPU heatsink didn't leave enough clearance for this guy to fit. So I had to use a M.2 slot in between the pcie slots. Luckily I don't have a GPU with a huge heatsink of its own otherwise this guy would not fit either.

I had a brand new drive basically warp from the heat of the controller on the first usage. That is what prompted me to get this specific heat sink. I worried about the drive location on my board and the lack of ventilation. This exact drive has 2 heat pipes and a large number of wide fins, that seem well designed for passive cooling.Installation is pretty simple. Instructions are provided in both English and Chinese. I think even without instructions you could figure it out with even a moderate amount of experience. There is a metal plate for the bottom as well, and if you have double sided drives you will appreciate that. In my case my drive is double sided. Each half has a thermal adhesive pad which you have to expose before installation. It was adhesive enough to be very solid, but I was still able to lift and reposition the drive after the fact. In other words, it was perfect. In terms of temps what I found was that it initially performed about the same as my other heatsinks in terms of baseline temps. But where it shines is with hardcore and consistent writes. I found that while my other drives would go up about 20 - 30% in temperature even after just 5-10 minutes of high volume writes, this heat sink allowed the temperature to remain steady. I still haven't found just how long I have before I significantly reach a higher temperature tier. I will post an update when I do.CONCLUSIONIf you just want to keep your drives operating well over time, there are many heat sinks that will work. This is ideal for extreme situations where you have low air flow and you know you need to use the drive intensively. If you are working with modeling or video applications that need to constantly access the drive, this a good option as long as you have the room for it.
