About this item

  • The Thermo-Tec wrap effectively improves the scavenging of exhaust gases by the headers from the engine's combustion chambers

I love this stuff. I have always used this brand and it has never let me down. I used it to cover my header pipe on my Husqvarna dirt bike. The header pipe gets hot, but now if my pants touch it they do not melt to it. Do not buy the imitation stuff, buy the Thermo-Tec. The imitation stuff may be cheaper, but remember "The greedy man pays twice."

Perfect size to wrap an OEM cast iron exhaust manifold. It really lowered my underhood temperature an stopped my oil pressure sending unit wiring from being damaged by the exhaust heat.

First, I hate metal ties. I get why they're necessary, but I still hate them...Secondly, this stuff is fiberglass - or has fiberglass in it. Not a big deal unless you have to remove it after usage as the fibers get eeeeverywhere. If you've ever had to go poking around in the attic with fiberglass insulation and have gotten that stuff on you - thats what it's like.Thirdly - and I probably just got a jerk for my smog guy (CA smog...) - they gave me grief at the smog station for not using the "stock" heat shield stating that it affects emissions and exhaust gas temperature, but couldn't really back it up with any useful facts or information or site anything that stated that the wrap was an 'illegal' modification to the emissions system. Suffice to say, despite my arguments, he wouldn't touch it unless I put the stock shield back on which pretty much meant I had to cut this stuff off. To be honest, the only reason I really wanted to put it on was so that I'd get the benefit of a 'heat shield' without having a bunch of hot metal in my way if I needed to stick my hand down in there. Oh well... wonder what they'd have said if I had carb legal headers... I think he may have used his poor english as an excuse not to explain himself. To be fair, I used this on my stock jeep headers - again, wasn't really for performance reasons. On that note, wrapping cast headers with a fairly non-uniform shape is a PITA! Used lots of the metal ties...

Great wrap but picture is misleading. The color is more grey than black. I was hoping for solid black to match the rest of my bike

You'll need three of these for a v8 - soaked it in water to make it easier to wrapIt's a slow and difficult processI'll report back after I fire up the motor for the first time

I applied this wrap to my polaris 08 sportsman 800 atv. First bit of advice on install, the package does not say anywhere on it to soak the heat wrap in water first. Tried it without doing that and it was near impossible, then I soaked it in water for about 10 minutes and it was so much easier to apply. I don't think it hurt the wrap at all to soak it. With that said, after it was applied and dry, I applied the thermotec high heat coating spray paint. After the paint dried, I ran my quad for about 30 minutes and it smoked quite a bit for about 10 minutes of that 30 minutes. It stinks when it's smoking so make sure you are well ventilated or outside. After this thing cured it got hard(ish) almost like a cast which was cool. I rode all day and then got off the quad and I was able to briefly touch the exhaust with my bare hands without burning myself ( although I do not recomend doing this :)).I didn't notice an increase in power but that is only because I just bought the atv and didn't have much time riding it before.I bought this wrap to hopefully stop my exhaust heat from vapor locking my fuel pump (turned out to not be the problem) but regardless, the wrap is great to keep the heat down under the quad and I'm sure it added some power as well.

works perfectly - and the narrower width makes it easier to get into the tight curves on my triumph tiger triple exhaust - get the black metal ties to go with it!
