I don’t know what has happened to their quality control cause dozens of my coworkers have both their battery acid tester and coolant checker (older versions but nothing changed design wise) and they have no issues but I’ve bought both recently and the seams in the plastic piece are horrible and let air in I’ve used this coolant checker twice and is can’t hold a seal unless you hold your finger over the leak, and it makes a total mess when you need to empty it. It’s a 20 dollar tool so ultimately it’s not much but I mean 2 for 2 with terrible build quality, I’ll go spend my money elsewhere.

This tool has changed over the years. It's not the same beefy tester that still lives in my toolbox from decades ago. Smaller discs and smaller overall along with a different type and material for the squeeze bulb. I really liked the older ones better. the only issue that brought me to buy a new one is the rubber bulb dried out and cracked (it's over 20 years old). The tester discs seem to have more play within the tube but I don't think that affects the accuracy of the tester. It will do the job but I am still searching for one that exacts my old one for professional quality, or a replacement squeeze bulb.

I feel that this version with the floating discs is a little more reliable to read than the ones with the needle. Between the two you can easily get a good idea of your coolant so I'd recommend both as they're just so inexpensive.

This replaced the exact same tester I bought in the early 80's. Of course, it's no longer made in America and is smaller and less sturdy, but it works the same and gives the same reading as the old one. The bulb was rotten on the old one and this cost the same as a replacement bulb so I got the whole tester. The bulb does interchange with the old one too for comparison.

This was a gift for my dad 2010 Christmas. He had stated to me that we had one of these types of testers in our shop but must have been sold on the sale. He had tried several different types of cheaper testers and hated them all. The other similar testers with the small round balls in them were too hard to read, while the easier to read testers you had to fill and hold level while reading. (Neither being too difficult but not the same ease of use) I searched google images and found this on amazon.com and ordered it the same day. Of all of the high dollar gifts for dad this year, a $15 coolant tester was the best. Thanks Amazon!
