Tiffen UV Protection filter Film, as well as video, often exhibits a greater sensitivity to what is to us invisible, ultraviolet light. This is most often outdoors, especially at high altitudes, where the UV-absorbing atmosphere is thinner; and over long distances, such as marine scenes. It can show up as a bluish color cast with color film, or it can cause a low-contrast haze that diminishes details, especially when viewing far-away objects, in either color or black-and-white. Ultraviolet filters absorb UV light generally without affecting light in the visible region. Using a Tiffen UV Protector on your Digital HD DSLR While the UV Protection filter has served its purpose in the film era for many years it will still continue to be one of the most popular choices in accessories today. Digital cameras have blocks, auto correction and digital filters that combat the bluish color cast therefore making the UV Protection filter a simple protector for your lens to combat dirt, finger prints & that fateful knock or drop. The thin design allows this filter to be used on wide angle lenses with minimum viginetting. This filter can be kept on your camera at all times. Who are Tiffen? This is a warning. Nothing with quality of the product, it's a good quality. BUT - if you buys UV filters as me, to put on the lens and forget about it, to have it protected the original lens glass 24/7 from unwanted scratches - this probably isn't for you because... You cannot put the lens cap on your lens. If you go through the hastle of mounting and removing this UV filter from your lens at every shoot - you won't mind. I do mind, there was no warning about it, it's silly to make a product like this to me, that 'voids' the most basic lens 'feature' - cover the lens with it's cap after done with the shoot. Going back, buying 'normal' thicker filter. Same brand but the thicker mount.

Purchased from Amazon in conjunction with new 16-35mm nikon lens. Works fine. Experts perhaps could distill differences between current Nikon, Hoya and Tiffen coated, UV filters, but I haven't seen anything in print that says so. All my other filters are nikons.

Yes, it's a clear piece of glass that blocks UV, and screws on the lens, wow...Specially profiled to minimize vignetting. Why does Amazon bug me for this review??? Dunno...

It's so thin, that the cap of the lens doesn't have any chance to get hold on. All right it can fit, but at the little touch of everything it goes lose. For the price, I bought other brands and work better. Remember, the cheap you buy, the problems you get, but if you know about it, use it until you can afford to get the right one. For me, this lesson cost a lot.
