I do not TIG weld but my son does it all day long. I had him test this out and he was impressed with how well it worked compared to the cost. He found it held short rods well with good control. He said it was comfortable and did the job quickly. The design was similar to the one he has at work and was easy to use.Now he doesn't have to take the short rods to work when they need sharpening.

Some peeps, like me, still use a dedicated bench grinder for tungsten electrodes. Sometimes the tungsten can get a bit warm. I’ve also heard the stories (never had a problem myself and don’t want to jinx it) of the tungsten projectile! This handy dandy little tool makes bench grinder dressing of electrodes problem free. It’s basically a dummy torch head without the handle. Insert your tungsten and let er rip. It’s absolutely perfect for those shorties! Hey, I’m not ashamed….I’m not perfect…I have tremors and well, the tungsten can take a dip in the puddle every now and then. I make a few trips over to the ol bench grinder when I’m at it. Life happens…..this little gadget, as simple as it is, makes these trips a bit less of hassle. It worth the price of admission for sure.

Excellent tool for a problem I didn't know had a dedicated solution. Short electrodes are such a pain to get a point on. After years of wrestling with vice-grips and not being able to accurately rotate them around on the grinder, I started using the screw-on collet adapter for my Dremel tool to hold the electrode. It worked rather well, in that I could also spin/rotate the electrode while it was being ground to a point. The only problem I had was that I would tend to grind off a lot more than I needed since it was spinning so fast. I get a lot more fine dexterity with this holder.

First off, this holder is well made, and it comes with multiple collet sizes and an end cap. The grip spins freely on the holder (but not freely enough, see below), and the collets fit well. I used this to sharpen a 3/32" ceriated electrode, first on the bench grinder for shape, and then on disc for polishing. It worked fine, but what I was disappointed about is that the electrode will not spin in the holder using the grinder motion on the electrode. There is too much friction for the electrode to spin freely when you hold the electrode at a slight angle to the grinding surface. This just means you have to turn the electrode by hand. It's still nice because I can set the angle with one hand and spin the electrode with the other, but it does mean you have to have two hands free. It would be problematic when grinding thoriated tungsten if you like to do that outside and not in the shop, and need to hold the grinder with one hand and the electrode with the other. As you can see in the photo the tip came out looking good.

I have primarily used this tungsten holder with a dedicated grinder tool. It helps to hold hot tungsten and provide a better grip when slowly rotated the rod during grinding. It works just as well when sharpening with a bench grinder. This tool came off as a novelty at first but the more I used it the more I started to like it over no holder.

I don’t have a bench grinder or an electrode grinder, so I use my regular angle grinder. This has made it so much easier to get a proper point on my tungsten and make sure the grind marks run parallel with the tungsten. No more fleeing arcs for me!

Great tool. Wish I had it 30 years ago.
