The rubber seal has started to become deformedAnd now it won’t hold water in the tub when it’s closed and it makes an annoying sound. No matter how much I try to twist it back into place it will not screw in so that it has a flush seal.

Sometimes the drain will not seal properly and I have to pull the seal downwards for it to get a good seal all the way around… otherwise it just constantly drains in a slow trickle. It’s currently installed on the bathtub.

Use a hair dryer to gently soften old plumbers putty and a drain wrench. The overflow drain cover was not deep enough not cover my piping but that was ok, I just cleaned up my old one.

Replacing the bathtub overfill drain cap is extremely simple. Just use a large flathead screwdriver to remove the 2 old screws and plate. Fit this over the old hole and install the 2 new shiny screws. My old plate was corroded, and the chrome was starting to flake off. This new plate was slightly smaller in diameter by about 2mm. You could the see a ring of the grime on the bathtub where the plate came off. I would recommend thoroughly cleaning that area before installation. Also, my tub started to form rust right there. I sanded it down and apply white ceramic paint for the repair. It all looks good after that and has a new shiny cover plate.
