Tipton Ultra Jags use an innovative technology of nickel plating to satisfy the shooter who wants the best tools to maintain their firearms. The nickel plating will not scratch or harm the finest bore. These cleaning jags are constructed from a solvent-proof material. When you use Ultra jags, you'll get better, faster cleaning results because you'll know your getting blue stains from copper fouling from your barrel and not from the surface of your jag. In addition, you will increase the life of your jag by protecting the jags brass core from the aggressive modern solvents with the nickel-plated coating. (17-20 Caliber is 5-40 threaded all others are 8-32 threaded).

I have several of these Ultra Jags. I use bore cleaners and copper solvents that turn blue to indicate copper remaining in the barrel. I actually have duplicates for each caliber I own, keeping them in my range bags and cleaning kit for home. They do a great job being resistant to the chemicals I use (Bore Tech), and clean up with soap and water without corroding.THE ONLY ISSUE I HAVE WITH THESE ... there are no markings to show what size they are. The 6mm and 6.5mm for example, are so close in size that I have to use a micrometer to verify. It would be nice to emboss the caliber, or mark them some way so that we can tell the difference quickly. I usually clean all the guns we shot at the club that day, at the same time (and I use several Tipton CF Cleaining Rods). I don't have to worry about mixing the bore brushes and mops together and cleaning them. Caliber sizes are stamped on the stem. I have to keep my Ultra Jags separate though. Great Product, just needs a small tweak.

Got this to use with flannel patches in a .308. Works perfect, putting solvent in the bore without squeege-ing it out like a .30 cal jag, plus the material doesn't give false positive for copper fouling.

I love this style jags because you don't get a false positive on your patches when You're using copper solvents

I really like this jag. Since my first one for 7mm, I've since bought .224, 6.5, .308, and .277...The don't break off like the plastic ones do. If you use a properly sized patch, they are a perfect fit on the bore for cleaning..Also, they will stand up to copper removing products without being damaged or giving a "false positive" on the patch for the presence of copper like a brass/bronze jag will.

Some jag tips have no ability to capture the patch but this one has a nice spike on it to hold the patch until it is in the bore. I would have given it 5 stars but I think it should be a bit longer. The quality is good and I suspect that assuming that I do not do anything stupid with it, it will outlast me. I do find that for .25 calibre rifles that the patches need to be a bit smaller to not be overly tight but for 6.5 mm rifles it is ideal.
