The Topeak Universal Chain Tool is a must-have for any cyclist, and I'm glad I added it to my toolkit.First of all, the build quality is great. The tool is rugged, well-made, and feels solid in your hand. The compact size (3.3 x 1.7 x 0.6-Inch) makes it easy to toss into a saddle bag or toolbox, so you can take it with you on the go. This tool performed well on a rusted bicycle chain! I was a bit skeptical at first, but the Topeak Universal Chain Tool made quick work of the rusted link, allowing me to break the chain and replace it with ease.

I had misplaced my trusty Park Tool chain breaker tool that I have had for 25 years, which was so good that I never thought I'd buy one from another brand, so I looked on Amazon for an inexpensive temporary replacement. Seeing the Topeak chain tool at a good price really piqued my interest, as I have used Topeak products for decades as well and always found their product to be great quality and design. One this arrived, I think that my trusty Park chain tool may find itself neglected once I do come across it. Very ergonomic and easy to use, and the included chain holder tool is a nice quality alternative to the homemade ones that I used to use. I was bummed out that I could not find my old tool, but that has turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Highly recommended.

I'm a bike DYIer and not a professional. For my needs, this is a perfect tool. It's small, well made, easy to use, and has some nice features like the chain hook and pin tube. The track for the chain link seeds the link nicely. The tool comes apart if you needed to break it down further. It fits in the palm of your hand and can easily go into a seat bag. As a comparison, I had a 20 year-old Blackburn mini chain tool (smaller than this one) that was made of softer aluminum, and the chain link track bent after a few uses. This seems a harder alloy and I can't imagine this tool bending or breaking under normal usage. I've never been disappointed with a Topeak product and find them always to be of excellent design and quality (e.g., their Master Blaster frame pump is by far the best one I've ever used, so I bought two).

Well built tool. But take note that while there are multiple pictures in the ad showing additional chain pins, there are 2 lines in the ad which mention that these are not included.

I got this to replace my chain for my bicycle and it worked quite nicely. It even comes with a metal piece to hold your chain in place when connecting it on the bike (I forgot what it was called). Overall, a pretty good product.

Great little chain breaker! Bought it for an on the road kit as I am not really of fan of chain breakers on mulitools. When I need it I prefer it to be a little more specialized to the task. This one makes the cut and is light and small. Broke a few chains so far and old stuff I had laying around just to test it out. Works great. I do baby my stuff a little. The metal doesn't seem as hard as others. But if you pay attention and work incrementally, I think this one is going to last. I did add a dab of loc-tite (blue) to the handle threads because it came apart way too easy. After that, it's perfect. 100% suggest this chain breaker.

Among the smaller, packable chain tools, this one stands out. When I received it, I immediately took it to a Shimano chain and drove out the chain pin without using any other gimmicks to gain leverage on the tool . In other words, I just used my hands . So the bottom line is this tool will work without driving you crazy and I like the fact that it has a shelf to center the pin once you have driven it in so that the link does not bind . This is a much better method than bending the chain until the link unfreezes . By the way, this is not intended to be a shop tool. Like other mini chain tools, it will not replace a full size shop-worthy tool. Don't expect it to get you through 20 chains.

This tool broke after only pushing out 14 pins. On the 15th pin, it felt like I had finished pushing the pin through, but to my surprise, it was only part way through. I turned the handle a little more, but then it bottomed out. The pushing tip appears to have a small void behind it and the tip slipped back into the void. Now it is too short to push the pins all the way out.I needed to finish my project, so I went to the store and picked up a Park Tool CT-5. Overall, the Park Tool performs better, feels better in hand and seems to be of better build quality and material. The pushing tip is replaceable and I noticed that the threads on the Park Tool are finer. The Topeak shot the pins out several inches... the Park Tool does not. All this for only a few dollars more than the Topeak. Just for fun I checked where each is made: Topeak is made in Taiwan, Park Tool is made in the USA!

What I needed was a good tool to break a bunch of chains down into dozens of little chain bits for a robotics project. After working with one of the cheap $5 big box store tools for about 15 minutes, I realized that there HAD to be something better out there. This was it. Sturdy construction, good leverage, and a push pin that actually stays inline with the chain pin while you're turning the handle. I've lost count of how many links I've separated at this point (I can't WAIT to start reassembling them! *sigh*) and the tool has put up with every second of use. It's probably got nearly a lifetime's worth of "normal" use on it already, and if I do happen to break it or wear it out, I will happily buy another one and carry on. Definitely pleased with the quality!(4/10/2014, edited to add) - I've now used this tool to separate nearly 1000 individual links, which is a lot less fun than it may sound. :) It's starting to exhibit a little bit of wear but is still working very well. For something that was most likely *not* designed with this amount of constant (ab)use in mind, I'd say it's absolutely tough enough to hold up to anything a more normal person could throw at it. I'm hereby awarding this tool an honorary 6th star for thriving in some terrible working conditions.
