I used these to increase a #4-40tpi threaded aluminum thumb nut to a #5-40tpi thread. Can not vouch for harder metals. Do to its very small size I had to take small 1/4 turns the back off then another 1/4 turn etc, etc until I was through the thumb nut. After about a quarter turn it would start feeling like it might break so slow and easy is the key. Recommended for soft metals.

We only needed to clean threads on a bumper rusty nut. Did a super job & seemed to be good quality / accurate steel tap.
