I bought two of these, one for my gelding and one for my mare. I put them on for the first time this morning. Turned them loose, and they ran off looking gleeful, but also a little puzzled as to why they could not gorge themselves on grass immediately. They ran into my back pasture where there is a pond. I really didn’t want them back there so I went to get a bucket of pellets to entice them out. I walked over there, got them out and started off towards their pen so that I could feed them. They love their mash so they took off at a gallop and I met them there. I fed them and took off the muzzles. I didn’t notice that my mare had completely ripped out the mouthpiece. The one for my gelding held up fine, but hers was completely gone. I am not sure how she did this. This all happened within 30 minutes. I think I need one made out of Kevlar! That being said, they seem very well-made and I was pleased with their quality. I just don’t know how I am going to get this to work for my mare.

worked great for a mouthy 1.5- 2yr stud colt for his one hour daily turnout deterred bite play over fence and standing for farrier. not a solution yet help break pattern during this phase. he outgrew this mouthy/nipping and the muzzle

I like the fit and the bigger space that doesn’t cover their nostrils. My last one lasted through the summer but the replacement just came apart in 2 months and the grazing hole has also gotten bigger. I think I’ll try another but if it doesn’t hold up I’ll get something else.

I have a horse who REALLY hated this but needed it, and he could not get it off. He’s also a larger horse and it fit him well, so if you have a petite horse you might think about getting a smaller size. All in all though, this thing is super duper tough because I saw how hard my guy tried to get it off initially.

I think this would, maybe be a good product... i was only able to use this for a few days.. it seems durable, the Velcro straps seem to be made well, easy to attach to the halter. There is a nice padded top. Easy to slip on the horse. Maybe could use a strap on the front of the nose to make it a bit more secure. But it rubbed my guys chin raw. I used it for a couple days and it seemed fine. Day 3-4 his chin was raw and exposed. He is not abnormally large nosed, i just think it is a design flaw. I do not recommend this. If you do decide to use this product check your horse over! There are other products our there. I switched to the flexible filly.

We have an easy keeper who will quickly get sore feet if allowed to freely graze a spring pasture. This spring he spent a few days on what looked like a fairly "safe" section of pasture but nope, after a few days it obviously wasn't so he had to stay in and continue to eat last years hay. He recovered fine but I didn't want to leave him in all of the time so I really needed to find a grazing muzzle. I wanted one that could use a standard nylon halter for durability and this fits the bill. You will need to add a piece of bailing twine or something to the top of the muzzle and connect it to the halter nose band to prevent the muzzle from dropping down and allowing the horse to eat through the large nose holes. I first tried using velcro like others but in the end, bailing twine (although not the most attractive option) is simpler, less bulky and readily available if it gets lost. He doesn't seem to care either way. The breakaway function was added by removing the short section of the halter buckle and replacing it with this "Weaver Leather Breakaway Fuse (3-Pack) , Brown". This looks like a much more long lasting solution when compared to the muzzle/halter combos out there. I was worried that the rectangular opening in the muzzle was going to let him eat too much but after a week of fresh short sugar filled green grass he is still sound and not showing any signs of too much sugar. I feel better and he seems to be happy as well. I did notice a little rubbed spot on the end of his nose but it's not directly from the muzzle fit (which has over an an inch of clearance) but more from his drive to eat and eat as much as possible and push his nose into the ground. He eats slower, drinks just fine, and his feet aren't getting sore so it's all good. All in all I'd say this was a great purchase.

I ordered one of these last year and it worked for a year and a half before my mare finally ripped it. I ordered another one this summer and it was not the same style. The new mask (even though I ordered the same size, style and brand) was easily 2 or 3 inches longer than the original mask and was huge on my horse. Returned this one and picked up a different one at the tack store.

This is the second one I have purchased, as a spare.It has good sized nose holes and the rectangular grazing hole is easier to use than the round ones. Only problem is , it does need an extra tie at the front, baling twine works well.

I have tried almost every muzzle out there, some have lasted longer than others but never have I had one last the whole summer. I finally bought this type after trying just about every different muzzle that has the halter attached to the muzzle, and I will never go back! I bought a cheaper turnout halter to go with the mask so that if anything did happen the halter would break but so far there have been no issues and the muzzle is working great! I also love that there are larger nose holes for breathing especially on warmer days.Update 7/10/17 - I just had to buy another muzzle after my first one broke. It lasted my just over a year which is the longest that my horse has ever gone without needing a new muzzle. Still highly recommend the tough 1 easy breathing muzzle.
