Thought these were going to be chincy and crap, but are actually heavy duty!

Easy to hook up, gives you the length you need while the coil keeps the cable out of the way.

Good quality, good length, like how it's red so it's not forgotten when hooking up trailers, works as intended

Let me first say that I had my doubts when I received these cables. Like others who have reviewed them, I didn't think the cable would be long enough and would engage the trailer brakes the first time I made a sharp turn. So before writing this, I conducted a little experiment with my two trailers. Boy was I surprised!I connected the split ring to the breakaway pin and tugged on the cable until the pin popped out of the switch box. In both cases, the pin did not release until the coiled cable reached full extension. I did this several times with both trailers and got the same results each time. The bottom line: the cable is indeed long enough to do the job without engaging the brakes prematurely. Now for my 1-star deduction. I had reservations about downgrading the cable, but ultimately I decided my observations warranted mentioning. I couldn't very well give it five stars, and then discuss the shortcomings. Anyway, lets start with the description. The cable is touted as being 48 inches long, but I measured 41 inches tip to tip of the cable itself when stretched until the pin disengages. Add the split ring and snap link and it's closer to 48". Did it make a difference? Not in my tests, but details matter. More on this in a minute. This leads me to my second beef. The split ring included with the cable really isn't up to the task. While conducting my experiments, the ring actually began to deform and pull open. Not all the way, but it certainly isn't a perfect circle any more.So what did I learn? The pin will not release until the cable is at full extension. The length of the cable, while only 41 inches, is adjustable with the option of adding whatever type of extension you care to use. That's why I said that details matter. The length wasn't 48", but adding my own connectors will change the overall length anyway. Also, the working length of your setup depends on where your switch and anchor points are located. Use 41" for planning and go from there to get a length that works for you.Additionally. the snap ring is big enough to attach just about anywhere. Yeah it seems larger than necessary, but that throat opening gives me options. And, it's stainless steel. That split ring though is not up to the task. I will replace it before I use the cable. I just haven't decided what will work, maybe a small quick link or snap link. It depends on what will fit in the hole in the pin, but whatever I choose will not bend when tugged on.Yeah, I know I rambled on a bit about this, but the breakaway cable is an important safety feature. Somebody may read this and decide to try it. If I'm going to endorse the cable, you can bet I trust that it works, well once I swap out that weak split ring anyway.

Breakaway cables are an absolute necessity to actuate the trailer’s electric brakes in the event of a hitch failure. For years I have used an improvised breakaway cable consisting of some braided wire and a loop I snapped into an attachment point inside my SUV tow vehicle. I have never been completely confidant it would work when needed. It is often in the way, occasionally overlooked and always looks cobbled. This cable solves that. It will always be the correct length. The carabiner is large, heavy duty and has a strong spring. The spiral cable is well coated with polyurethane plastic. It is roughly 10” coiled and 36” fully extended. You could add in another 6” if you count an inch apiece for the two loops and 4” for the carabiner, but it’s still not the four feet claimed. Three feet is fine for my use, since I have a convenient attachment point needing only about one foot of slack cable. If it turns out I need more length - for example if I use a different tow vehicle - it would be a simple matter to remove one carabiner and link two of these together.

These were offered just in time; my existing safety cable was way too long had had become damaged by contact with the road (thankfully this caused no disaster).I installed one initially and it fit but I had to pull the line very tight. While it was long enough, the coil acts like a fairly stiff spring and it was so tight that I was worried a stiff bump or tight turn could activate the safety brake. Luckily this is a 4-pack and I was able to double them up and it's still pulling tight without any slack but with plenty of stretch. Honestly my other trailer had an intact safety cable but I liked the look and sturdiness (and lack of slack) that I doubled up the other two and installed it there.I will comment that this comes with a key-ring on one side and a WEIRDLY OVERBUILT carabiner on the other side. Honestly I'm glad the carabiner is large enough to hook onto a standard safety hook achievement but the contrast is funny.

These seem like decent quality cables, but way shorter than the 4' they mention in the ad. On my travel trailer, the breakaway controller is mounted about 3' back from the coupler. When this coil is stretched, I probably wouldn't be comfortable with more than 18-20" since the tension gets too high. But, they do give you 4 of these, so I'll string 2 together and it should be fine. The included carabiners are of heavy duty (sand stainless) and will find many uses on the travel trailer - so all good there. For my application, the included coil cable is just too short without modification.
