I purchased the 128GB version of this product first, which I used for two years with no issues whatsoever. I then upgraded to the 256GB. This has allowed me to live within the constraints of the factory Apple SSD drive, which is smaller than the spinning disk drive that was available in my older Macs. I liked the product enough to purchase one for my wife and mom for their 2013 MacBooks. In my view if it" just works" and you can forget about it, it's a great product, and that's what we have here. Key points:- There are several variants in this product lineup. Different versions are needed for different laptop types. Be sure to verify your laptop with the product before ordering. I have ordered three variants for the MacBook Pro 15, MacBook Pro 13, and MacBook Air 13. See the product website to help you select: [...]- I prefer the black bezel that this product offers over the silver/aluminum bezel offered by others. It make it easy to spot which side of your Mac has the device in it which helps you avoid impacts on that side that may damage the device. I also had he experience of a silver flush-mount card in my mom's MacBook that was accidentally sent back to Apple during a depot repair, and the card and data was lost. I have also used the PNY 128 GB product, which performed similarly, but which had a bezel which protruded more and was more prone to crack if the Mac was set down on that edge.- The bezel is about as flush as you can get while still being able to get a fingernail under it to remove it.- Do not expect a rocket ship. This drive should be considered for storage expansion, and it's fast enough for accessing general files, or even movie playback, but it's not designed for editing or production. Transcend claims 60 MB/s write and 90 MB/s read. Blackmagic Speed Test clocked mine at 45 MB/s write, 85 MB/s read with a 1-2 second ramp on each side. However, that test was performed with the device more than half full. My original use for my 128 GB was for my iTunes library, which was an easy way to move off lots of content to free up primary disk space.- You won't have problems with mounting on any reboot—the drive is quickly and readily available—except in one scenario: if you allow your Mac battery to deplete to the point where it enters sleep mode, the device will unmount and when you restore power and wake the Mac you'll receive an error about the drive not being ejected properly. You can remove and re-insert or use DiskUtility to re-mount the device.- The new MacBook Pro (Late 2016) does not have an SD card slot, so this device will not carry forward in the Apple product line, and given the various product versions needed for each Mac, you may not be able to easily find a home for it if you upgrade your Mac. Consider than before buying.

Grandi come sempre! Amazon for life!

My MacBook (15" Retina Pro) has a 512GB SSD, which is blindingly fast but not quit large enough for my stuff, my photos AND my iTunes library. I used to store my iTunes library (or the bulk of it) on a separate USB drive which helped, but meant carrying the drive as well if I wanted to use it.Along comes Transcend's JetDrie Lite, 128GB of storage. "Perfect" I though, "I'll stick my photo library on there, and I can bring my iTunes library back to my SSD".The JetDrive itself is pretty small physically, and comes well packaged.Installation is easy, just slot it into the Card Reader slot.Removal is easy too, there is a black flange which presses flush with the side of the MacBook, and you can prise the drive out using a fingernail easily enough should you want to remove it - personally I like the fit-and-forget aspect, it's in there and I have no plans to remove it (until I sell this machine). The drive comes pre formatted but for MSDOS which means it is usable but for Macs you are better off reformatting it to native format. Which is fast and easy to do, and the JetDrive instructions tell you what to do if you are unsure of how to use Disk Utility.Formatting done, it was time to copy my photo library across (all 120GB of it), which took maybe 10-15 minutes but once done was done.I have to say, the drive is working well. Both iPhoto and Aperture use it with no problems, everything Just Works. As expected.Speed-wise, do NOT expect SSD or even HD performance! This is sat in a card reader and is rather slower. It did a comparison of performance using BlackMagic's Disk Speed Test on my internal SSD, an external USB3.0 had drive, a Thunderbolt external hard drive and the JetDrive, using the same settings for each, and got the following average results.Internal SSD write 280MB/s, read 395MB/sExternal USB write 90MB/s, read 90MB/sThunderbolt write 115MB/s, read 125MB/sJetDrive write 5MB/s, read 50MB/sAs you can see, it is a LOT slower than the others, especially at writing. At reading, it's just over half the speed of my external USB3.0 hard drive, which means it's certainly acceptable in terms of read performance. Write is not too bad if you are not doing it often. So for my application, using it to store my photo library, it's a great fit - the library is read FAR more often than written to, and reads are far larger than writes, so the performance is OK. And a lot more convenient than having to remember to carry round an external drive!Reliability is of course an important factor. When I first installed the drive and was copying files across, the drive suddenly disappeared. Remove it physically and reinstall it and all was well, and there's been no repeat of that one-off occurrence, which I put down to the physical connection (perhaps there was a bit of dust or something in the CF slot, as I do cart the laptop around some pretty strange places). Since then, it has been rock-solid, and I've been using it for just over a month so far.TimeMachine automatically picked it up and added it to its backups, which is helpful.Overall I'd definitely recommend the Transcend JetDrive Lite, it does the job, it is unobtrusive, performance is acceptable, and for me it is making use of a card reader slot which I never otherwise used.

Does not work!! My MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) doesn't even acknowledge that the SD card is even inside! Went to disk utility and it's not even there...Furthermore, it's nearly impossible to remove. I spent 10 minutes trying to remove it from my computer by prying at it with my fingernails. I put it back in hoping it might work again, and now it's stuck in my computer again, I've kept trying to remove it with my fingernails but I couldn't get it out for over half an hour. How am I supposed to even return a product if I can't even get it out of my computer. I am a regular Amazon shopper, and this is the first time a product truly disappointed me.Would not recommend this product for MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) owners.
